“Yes,” I answered casually because that’s the man who was in charge right then. “But I believe I can trust you, can’t I?”
She started to nod.
“Words, Noemi,” I growled in her ear.
“Yes, you can trust me.”
I fisted her hair, my lips hovering over hers. “Don’t disappoint me,bambina. I’ll know.”
She stiffened in my arms, peering up at me with a mixture of fear and resentment. “I haven’t lied to you. Your secret is safe with me.”
My secret wasn’t safe with anyone, but I would play the hand I was dealt until I was the one holding all the cards again. When all the pieces came together, I’d make it up to her.
“Good. Now, get the fuck on that plane.”
My arms fell away from her as I took a step back. I couldn’t look at her.
I turned away, leaving the carnage in my wake. I took the most beautiful woman in the world, gave her everything that was mine to give, then broke her. I deserved every bit of the hell coming my way.
