I bury myself in my shelves, straightening my beloved books and returning some to the aisles. As I set a book on the shelf, a tall dark figure flashes by the corner of my eye and stops me. I look but no one is there.

Archer? Oh God, I hope not.

I shake it off and get back to work returning books to shelves when a familiar velvety voice purrs behind me. He’s close and I swear I felt his breath on my neck.

"Macy," he whispers, and goosebumps rise over my arms and legs.

I close my eyes, freezing, hoping it was in my head.

“Macy please look at me,” the voice whispers again and my heart thumps against my chest.

Dammit…no…I can’t face him like this.

I turn around slowly and see his perfect meadows staring back at me. My knees go weak and I’m not sure I continue standing.

“What are you doing here Archer?”

“I made some calls,” his lips spread in a little smile, “I told you I’d make it right.”

My lips tick up in response to his because I just can’t help it, and I stare incredibly too long at him. Once I realize that I am, I shake it off, “Yes. Thank you. You did your part,” I nod.

“I meant what I said though.”

“About what,” my eyebrows push together.

“That I would repay you with dinner, or cleaning…or whatever,” his pitch raises hopeful.

I put the book in my hands back down on my cart behind me, and turn around to face him, “Archer, I’d like to ask you not to come back to the library again…or at least not to see me.”

His face turns into one big frown, “But why? The other night?”

“That night was wonderful, but it wasn’t real. We were both in different states of mind, but now we’re in the real world. We don’t belong in each other’s worlds.”

“Why not?” his face wrinkles in what almost looks like anger.

“We’re…just…from different worlds,” I shrug. “We have different lives.”

“But you’re amazing,” his eyes seem to light up and it’s endearing. “I want to spend more time with you.”

I fidget a bit confused that he resembles the man I saw down there in that basement.

But there’s is no way this is going to work, right?

I wanted to think I was another victim to his charm but I’m shocked at him right now. I think of entertaining his offer, but then my thoughts drift to that dreadful scene with Liza and a chill runs down my spine. I open my mouth to finally tell him, no but he starts before I can.

He reaches in his pocket and holds his hand out. I look down and see my gold swan necklace.

“You left this.”

“It broke off that night.”

“I know. I fixed it,” he smiles.

“You did?” I take the necklace and our skin brushes each other, "thank you, Archer, " I whisper.

Butterflies float in my stomach and my heart thumps at the sweet gesture.

“Spend the day with me tomorrow. Please,” our eyes meet and I can’t deny the feeling this man gives me.

“Okay,” I whisper.
