“I know Robbery is still trying to scare up any of Finks’ other known associates. Anyone he's taken scores with in the past. People that he owes. They’re hoping for a hit to see if there’s anything we’re missing. But it’s a wait-and-see situation right now. But we’re ears and boots to the ground.”

“Right,” I said. “We’ll get ’em one way or another. Either you guys will. Or we will.”

“You’re not bulletproof. Even though, as a Transformer, you’re pretty much indestructible.” She gave a little laugh. “Seriously though, Tyler, please be careful.”

“Of course.” I was confident things would go off without a hitch. But there was still a chance we could come face to face with a very hairy situation. I knew I wasn’t invincible. There was no chance that I would be stupid or reckless. I didn’t want anything jeopardizing a chance at a future with Marisa. To at least see where we were headed. Where we’d end up. And I wanted, more and more, for each day to turn into another one.

I took her hand and leaned in for a kiss. “Let’s go for a walk,” I suggested. Since my place was across from the beach, I made it part of my routine to enjoy it as much as feasibly possible.

“Gimme a few,” she said, popping off the chair. She headed into the bedroom, where I could hear her changing her clothes.

Marisa was a vision to behold and worship when she emerged wearing a black and white polka dot dress that came to just below her knees. Her hair was pulled into a low ponytail, small studs in her ears, and just a hint of makeup. The only thing I noticed was her lip-gloss which made her lips a beacon, calling to me for a kiss.

I couldn’t resist taking one as we linked hands and made our way outside.

I let out a satisfied sigh, enjoying the warmth of the sun’s rays, the warm breeze, the sound of the waves crashing on the shoreline, and Marisa’s hand in mine. “Nothin’ better than some good ol’ vitamin Sea.” My euphoric mood lent way to the silly pun.

Marisa squeezed my hand. “I think you mean vitamin D.”

When I looked at her, she had a coy look in her eyes and a giggle on her lips. “I don’t get it.”

“You’re lying.”

“Am I?”

“Yes.”

“Oh, right,” I said, playing dumb. “Like milk?”

“You’re being silly. You know as well as I do that the ocean is the best place to get Vitamin D.”

“Mmm,” I considered, “I don’t know.”

“How can you argue that logic?”

“I’m not. I just think you might need a prescription.”

“For what?”

I stopped and pulled her to me, her back to my front, and grinded myself against her. “For this much vitamin D.”

She laughed out loud. “You’re ridiculous. And crude.”

I squeezed her tight in my arms and moved my lips to her ear. “But you like it.”

“I love it,” she said and sighed against me.

We stood together in communal silence and watched the people on the sand, the waves coming in, and the surfers out in the water.

“I bet I can beat you,” she said, breaking our silent trance.

“Beat me at what?”

“At your crudeness.”

“Ha!” I laughed. “I don’t think so. I hang around SEALs all day.”
