“Iknowthat, I do. I know you love me.” She sighed and walked over to him, taking his hand, and decided the best way to diffuse the tension was to put a little levity into the conversation. “Try to understand where I'm coming from. You are hot property.Scorchinghot. Stand-too-close-and-you’ll-get-burned hot.” She ran her hands up his chest to his shoulders, and he rolled his eyes, but she saw the corners of his mouth twitch.

“There are going to be people there who have pursued you in the past, and there will be some there who might like to pursue you now. If Caroline is anything to go by, I won't be much of a deterrent. That’swhat I meant by being mentally prepared. If I know what I'm up against, it will make it that much easier.”

“You're not going into the lion's den, Lizzy, you're going to a fundraiser.”

She laughed. “Oh, you havenoidea what a woman can be like when she sets her sights on a man. A lion's den is a very apt description.”

“I still think it's ridiculous. I don't plan on letting you out of my sight, or out of my arms, for one minute. You have no idea how much I've been looking forward to this.” He paused, his eyes searching hers. “You're not feeling insecure about me, are you?”

“No, it's not aboutyou. It’s just…” She sighed, not sure how to explain it further. “You still didn't answer my question: will there be any ex-girlfriends there?”

He shrugged. “Maybe. It's not like there are dozens of them all over the city, but it's likely one or two might be there. It's just the nature of the beast.”

She smiled. “Ah, the beast. Would that be high society, or you?”

He bent his head and growled against her neck, making her shiver. “I'myourbeast.”

His lips traveled up her neck to her jaw, making her sigh, then on to her lips. What started out as a soft, tender kiss quickly changed to something passionate and hungry, and he caught her bottom lip in his teeth and gently tugged.

Every nerve in her body lit up with delicious anticipation, the passion between them always simmering just below the surface.

“No one compares to you,” he said, his voice deep and rich. “No one has ever made me feel the way you do. I wish I could explain it better, but I can't. I can never find the words… I wish you could understand what you are to me, what you mean to me. What you do to me.”

Her eyes sought his, and her frustration was temporarily forgotten. “What do I do to you?”

He grasped one of her hands and held it over his rapidly beating heart. “This. This is what you do to me.” He guided her hand down low, over his stomach to the stiffness in his jeans. “And this. You do this to me so well, Lizzy.”

She ran her hand over the length of him, up and down, and his eyes drifted shut. After a moment he lifted her hand and kissed her palm, then went to shut the bedroom door, making sure to lock it.

“Do you know how many times I've thought about yesterday morning?” he asked as he backed her toward the bed. “I've thought about it to the point that I've been in pain. Waking up with your gorgeous lips wrapped around me… My God, even talking about it now...”

His eyes never left hers, and desire rocketed through her body. It still amazed her that he had this effect on her; that he could speak to her or look at her in a certain way, and her body would immediately respond, readying itself for what was to come.

He pulled her top over her head and dropped it to the floor, and her bra quickly followed. As they tumbled onto the bed together, he was already working at her shorts, pulling them down and dragging her panties with them.

“I wish I could tell you...” he whispered as his mouth traveled from her neck, down over her collarbone and to the tip of one breast. “I wish I could put it into words…”

She moved her hands to the bottom of his shirt, desperate for the feel of his skin on hers. “Don't tell me. Show me.”

He ducked out of his shirt and tossed it aside, then pulled off his jeans and boxers, adding them to the growing pile of clothes on the floor. He lowered his head and latched on to one nipple while his fingers worked the other, rolling and tugging the sensitive peak.

She squirmed beneath him, all sensation now, and arched her body further into his mouth. He raised his lips to hers and kissed her deeply, then slowly slid into her. She heard a rumbling groan come from low in his chest, and he lifted her leg to wrap it around his hip. Her hands slid down his back to his bottom, and she held him tightly, pulling him into her as far as he could go.

His thrusts were languid and unhurried at first, but she spurred him on, encouraging him to move faster and press harder. Her body responded to each nuanced change; they were perfectly in sync. He trailed one hand slowly down her body, taking time out to stroke her breast before continuing on to where they were joined and stroking her there, circling and teasing, his fingers matching the rhythm set by his hips.

She stared into his eyes and saw everything he felt for her, every raw emotion, in his expression; it was all there, laid bare for her to see. She could feel it in the way he touched her, the way he made love to her, the way he looked at her.

Her body tightened and coiled, and she held his face. “I love you,” she whispered. “I love you so much.”

“Ohh, Lizzy,” he groaned, his thrusts growing heavier and more deliberate. “I love you. I love—”

His words were cut short as he joined her in oblivion, and he finally collapsed on top of her, blanketing her body with his.

They lay tangled together on his bed for a long while, slowing their breathing, kissing and talking quietly. Elizabeth started feeling sleepy, and would have liked nothing better than to crawl under the sheets and go to sleep with Will wrapped around her.

A buzzing noise sounded from the floor, rousing them, and he grunted. “I think that’s my phone.”

He slowly disentangled his body from hers, reached over the edge of the bed to the floor to grab his jeans, and dug his phone out of his pocket.
