Will woke Tuesday morning to the ringing of his phone, and opened one eye to look at the hotel’s alarm clock. It was only four thirty, but when they spoke on the phone last night, he’d made Elizabeth promise she would call before she left for work.

“‘Lo,” he mumbled hoarsely.

“Good morning.”

He kept his eyes closed and sank further into his pillow. “Mm…morning. How are you?”

“I shouldn’t have called,” she whispered.

“No, no. I would've beenextremelyupset if you didn’t call me.”

“But we could have had some fun making up.”

“Hm…don’t put thoughts like that in my head when I’m in such a vulnerable state.”

“What kind of vulnerable state are you in?”

“I’m in bed, and I was having a very vivid dream. I’m sure you can figure out the rest.”

She sighed. “Poor thing.”

“Yeah, poor me.”

“Do you want to go back to sleep?”

“Only if you promise me I can go back to that dream.”

“Maybe you will.”

“Now that I’ve talked to my muse, it’s a possibility.” It fell silent, and he frowned. “You still there?”

“Sorry. Still here.”

“What are you thinking about?”

“Um…I don’t think I’m going to tell you.”

“Oh, come on. ’Fess up.”

“Okay. I was thinking how sexy your voice is when you’re sleepy, and I was wondering what you look like when you wake up in the morning.”

He grinned widely. “Wow. I bet you’re blushing.”

“Shut up.”

He chuckled. “Someday my dream will become reality, and then you won’t have to wonder what I look like in the morning. You’ll see for yourself.”

She sighed. “In the meantime, I have a job to get to, and you should go back to sleep.”

“I probably won’t. Maybe I’ll head down to the gym.”

“Will you call me later?”

“Sure. Richard and I have a meeting with an engineer first thing this morning, then I’ll have some time before lunch.”

“Okay. Have a good day.”
