“Can it wait until tomorrow?”

Richard shrugged. “Sure.”

“I think I'll head back to the hotel. Do you want to grab a beer later?” Will asked, trying to find a way to get them back on easy terms.

“I'll pass. I called Anne, and tomorrow night works for her. Is that okay?”

“Sure. I’ll just get room service tonight.” Secretly, Will was relieved. He suddenly wasn't in the mood to socialize.

“Okay. I'll talk to you in the morning.”

Will nodded. “See you tomorrow.”

Will walked into his suite, placed his laptop on the table, kicked off his shoes, and removed his suit jacket. His tie followed, and he undid the top buttons on his shirt. When he was comfortable enough, he flopped down onto the couch.

He hadn’t had the opportunity to talk with Elizabeth at all today, so after glancing at his watch and figuring it was probably about seven o’clock there, he texted her a quick hello, and smiled when she immediately responded.

Hi! How was your day?

Good. Long.A little overwhelming, honestly.ButI thinkwe might have found the person to lead RJD’s new design team. We meet again on Thursday.

That’s great!

She reminded me a lot of you. Enthusiastic and committed

That’s me! Committed to my little algae blooms

He chuckled. What are you doing now?He wanted to hear her voice.

Charlotte will be here any minute.

He frowned. Okay. I’ll call you later, I’m going to order dinner in and do some work.

Sounds good, talk soon. xo

He quickly perused the room service menu, and after ordering his food, he texted Richard and asked him to send some info on the LA properties. He knew his cousin had been excited to talk to him about the two buildings, and Will felt a little guilty for walking out and shutting him down.

Five minutes later, his phone pinged with a return text.

On its way. See you tomorrow.

After George had answereda few questions about the chemicals he would be using in the darkroom and about the process of developing film, Elizabeth felt comfortable enough to let him go in on his own, without her hovering over him. She and Charlotte went outside to enjoy the warm evening air, taking advantage of the time to catch up.

A little while later, Elizabeth went into the house to get them something to drink, and George emerged from the darkroom.

“I take it the shirtless guy gracing the wall in there is your boyfriend?” he casually asked.

She wasn’t surprised he’d noticed Will’s picture; it was larger than most of the others, and had been given a spot front and center. He was sitting on her deck, his skin glistening with sweat as they’d just finished a run on the bike path. She’d zoomed in, capturing him from the waist up. His eyes were closed, and his lips were turned up in a small smile. He looked happy and content.

“That’s him,” she answered flatly.

He followed behind her as she walked into her small galley kitchen. “He looks familiar, but I can’t place his face.”

She wasn’t quite sure what to say in response, so she ignored the remark as she peered into the refrigerator. “I’m getting some water. Would you like something?”
