“Water would be fine. Can I help?”

She turned from the refrigerator then and realized he was standing directly behind her, entirely too close. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up, and she shoved two bottles of water at him.

“You can take these outside.”

His eyes drilled into hers, and her discomfort increased. He remained there for just a moment longer, then smiled. “Thank you, Lizzy. I'm suddenly parched.”

He left the kitchen, and she shuddered.I can’t figure him out. She gave him time to get outside, and then went to join him and Charlotte.

“When does Will come back from California?” Charlotte asked.

“Friday,” Elizabeth answered.

“That's good. Only a few more days.”

“He went to California without you?” George asked.

“He’s there for business,” Elizabeth responded.

“It’s a shame you couldn't go with him, but I'm sure he's not lacking for things to do. There are a lot of pleasant distractions out there.”

Charlotte glared at him and then rose from the chair. “Um, we should go.” She looked at Elizabeth and smiled. “Want to get together this weekend? Maybe we can go for a run Saturday morning, then grab some breakfast.”

“Sure. Let’s talk on Friday and make a plan.”

George stood and grasped Elizabeth’s hand, squeezing it lightly. “Thanks again, Lizzy. I appreciate you letting me into your personal space.”

They went down the stairs to the driveway, and she wiped her hand on her shorts.I just don't like him.

She went into the house and headed to the darkroom to check that the chemicals were stored properly and to make sure everything was tidy. Almost immediately, she noticed a picture that George had obviously left behind. Its subject was a red-haired woman who looked to be in her twenties and was topless, but wearing panties. She was sitting on a bed in a very revealing pose and sucking on one of her fingers, while her other hand was provocatively positioned underneath the elastic band of her panties.

Elizabeth wrinkled her nose.Ugh.What the hell?

She didn’t know if George needed the picture, and she didn’t care; she tore it in half and dropped it into the trash, and decided she would have to talk to Charlotte. She got a weird vibe from him, and needed to look out for her friend.

Will atehis dinner while looking over the material Richard sent. His cousin had gathered extensive information about the properties, and he was right; they were a steal, and a great way to expand RJD’s market. Maybe he wouldn’t be flying home on Friday after all; he might have to consider going to LA.

He lay back on his pillows, stretching out comfortably, and picked up his phone. It only rang once before Elizabeth picked up.

“Hi, Will.”

“Hi, babe.”

“How are you?”

He sighed heavily. “Fine. Tired.”

“You sound like you're in need of a back rub.”

“That sounds perfect. When can you be here?”

She laughed lightly. “I wish Icouldbe there.”

“Are you all curled up in bed?”

“You already know the answer to that.”
