EPOLOGUE NOAH

It’s our one-year anniversary. So much has changed.

Amber and I had a baby boy, and he’s the spitting image of me. That’s every father’s dream, you know? We’re heading back to Paris to celebrate the anniversary. Planning to make it an annual thing.

We’re leaving little Nickolas home, so that could be rough. I miss him just thinking about it. Have to try, though. A break is good, so they say. Guess we’ll find out.

The trip will be short, three days max. Don’t think either of us could handle anything longer.

We’re staying in the same place as we did last year. It was the perfect setting for the perfect honeymoon, and I hope to replicate it.

I remember our first night there. We had sex on the couch shortly after we entered our room, and it was fantastic. Took a nap afterward. We were exhausted. Sleep-deprived. I woke before Amber and ordered room service.

It came, and we dined in our robes. Halfway through the meal, she toyed with me while eating a strawberry. Taking little nibbles. Lolling her head backward. Moaning, “This is so good.” I got a hard-on so fast it’d make your head spin.

I leapt from the chair, swooped her up, and carried her to the couch. Reenacted our sex scene from earlier and was not disappointed. Nothing about Amber has ever disappointed me. She’s given me everything I’ve ever wanted.

Or has she?

“I have something to tell you,” she says before boarding the plane.

“What?”

“I’m pregnant.”

I thought she was getting bigger but didn’t want to say anything. A good husband never comments on his wife’s weight gain.

“How far along?”

“Thirteen weeks.”

“How come you didn’t tell me?”

“Thought you might notice I was getting bigger.”

I stood in silence.

“You did notice, didn’t you?”

I shrug.

She hugs me. “I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

We smile at each other and board the plane.

Two happy people.

So much in love.
