Chapter 16

Natasha

Kavat turned to look at me. “What implants?” he repeated, looking confused and exasperated.

“Urgoth said you had given me an implant to make me infertile until this mission was over. And that he was going to decide to remove it or not afterwards if I had done a good enough job.”

“That’s... sick! No. Nothing like that has happened to you. What the fuck, Urgoth? Why would you involve me in your tissue of lies?”

He looked like he wanted to punch Urgoth, too. I didn’t blame him. My own fist was feeling quite restless right now.

“You lied to me to get me to do what you wanted!” I was fuming about this.

“It’s called being a manager,” Urgoth replied. “I placed you in a position where you had to do the task required of you. And I was right to try and stop you breeding. A pregnant operative is a useless liability. If it was down to me, this whole mission never would have gone ahead. I told my superiors an omega could never make an effective spy. All you’re good for is fucking and producing babies.”

“You forced me into it! You fucking manipulative cunt! I’m done with all of this shit! Take me back to Glasgow.” I ran at him, wanting to kick him, even though I knew I couldn’t hurt him. It still would have made me feel better about what he had done to me.

Ryon and Kavat got me out of Urgoth’s broken office and into the medical bay.

“Sit on the bed,” Kavat said. I folded my arms and shook my head in refusal. Ryon lifted me up and placed me on the bed.

“I don’t want any more shite from you lot. You’re all dickheads!” I was too upset at what Urgoth had done, and now he held no power over me, I didn’t have to be quiet about it.

“Natasha, you need to calm down.” Ryon’s voice was calm and patient. I hated that.

“Aren’t you fuming on my behalf?” I demanded. “You should be kicking off, too.”

“Of course I am angry, but this isn’t going to solve anything.”

I glared at him. “I’m done being that bastard’s lap dog.”

Ryon sighed, and I thought he was going to try and talk me out of my mood some more, but instead, he got onto the bed behind me, pulled me against his chest, held me and purred.

The gentle sound burst the bubble in my chest and I began to cry.

“I almost killed someone last night because I thought I had no choice.”

“But you didn’t cross that line.”

I nodded, knowing at least that much was true. “But then you had to, to get me out of danger.”

“I’d do it again to save you.”

Ryon ran his fingers over my belly.

“You could be carrying my child.”

His soft words cut my tears short. I looked up at the doctor, who had gone pale.

“If that’s the case we need to extract her immediately.”

“Can you check?” Ryon asked. I snorted and was about to tell him how pregnancy testers worked when Kavat replied.

“Of course.” He picked up one of those silver devices and waved it over me. “Status: Not currently pregnant.”

“Oh. That’s good.” Ryon’s words didn’t match his disappointed tone. I wasn’t sure how I felt about anything right now, so I stayed quiet.

“Natasha, I know that Urgoth’s methods as a handler have been underhanded and wrong, but we need you to complete this mission,” Kavat said. “There are thousands of omegas that haven’t been found yet, and a handful who have, and they are all counting on you. The beta liberation movement has done untold harm and keeps attacking omegas. They sabotaged the space ark in the first place and caused the loss of all our omegas, twenty-five years ago. You have every right to refuse, but would you consider going back in and helping us end this?”
