“She needs a man, Blair,” Cat said. “We keep telling her that. Well, we all need one.”

“Not everyone needs a man,” Camile said in her chair. She loved that her client, who was a weekly Monday morning wash and set, was sticking up for her. She smiled at Camile and got a wink back.

“But some could use it in their life to bring them joy,” Blair said. “That and a dog.”

She hated when Blair said things like this. How could she know? “I don’t have time for a pet,” she said.

“Maybe,” Blair said. “In my dream you were visiting with a hunky guy and his puppy. You had fun talking and playing with the dog. Kind of goofy-looking and acting?”

She felt her shoulders slump and knew she had to find another topic fast. “She should get a cat or dog to snuggle with at night,” Cat said.

“I’m not home enough for an animal. They are fun to play with when they are someone else’s and then they can go home.”

“Have you been playing with someone’s dog?” Cat asked, smirking. “A man? Is that why you didn’t have your silly hat on in the sun and got a burn?”

This always happened. There was no getting out of it either.

Blair let out a low chuckle. “Am I right? I love it when I’m right.”

“Maybe,” she said, then looked down at Camile.

“Sometimes you’ve got to find a few men to figure out your place,” Camile said. “My granddaughter, Faith, she does tarot readings and could tell you more about this dream.”

“I love tarot readings and all that fun stuff,” Cat said. “I want to do it.”

No. Absolutely not. She wasn’t going to let this conversation suck her into a place of fear that someone might find out about her.

She’d done her best to change her identity and had been Vivian Getman for years.

She wasn’t going back to a place before that time.

When she was finished with Camile’s hair, Cat was checking on the teal color in hers. “That’s going to look great.”

“I think so too,” Cat said. “So tell me about this guy and dog you spent time with yesterday.”

She wanted to growl, but there was no way she could. Cat wouldn’t let it go and everyone always believed in Blair’s dreams.

“It’s nothing major.”

“But it was a guy?” Cat asked. “I think I need about ten more minutes to get the brightness I’m going for.”

“At least that,” she said. She looked over at Hannah and Blair, saw that they wanted to know more too. “And I was weeding my flowers when someone walked by with their dog that all but knocked me over.”

“Someone like a neighbor? I’d ask if it was anyone I know, but I don’t know too many around here,” Cat said.

“You’d know him by name,” she said and wondered why she couldn’t keep her mouth closed.

“Really? Now I need to know.”

“Us too,” Blair said.

She sighed. “Remember the mountain man that came in here and I gave him a cut and trimmed his beard?”

“Oh yeah. The hottie that you made over and were staring into his baby blue eyes, then watching his ass as he walked out,” Cat said.

“That’s him. His name is Brent.”

“Yep. I remember now. He was walking his dog by your house?”
