Chapter Nineteen

Corentina

I can hardly believe the events that have been happening. It’s been two whole weeks since the women were at the hospital. Rémy even offered to pay for their medical expenses, including a substance abuse rehab stay for them. He didn’t have to, given the way they screwed him over that night when they all called out. Hell, there were even photos of them doing drugs on social media, which is such a risk when you own a business like Diamond Dancers.

Now I’m at Félix and Madelaine’s house with Rémy’s sisters. Désirée, Olivia, and Sabine are helping Madelaine and I plan a baby shower for Olivia. Rémy and I may only be dating, but it feels as though I already married into this lovely family. They treat me like I’m one of their own, and Madelaine’s even told me how being part of the DeLancy family starts from the moment you’re romantically involved with one of the men.

“What kind of theme are we thinking about?” Madelaine asks Olivia. She’s sitting directly beside me, while Olivia is across the table. Sabine is on my left, and then there’s Désirée beside her. In the center of the table, we have a three-tiered serving tray. On it, there are macaroons, tiny cupcakes, slices of loaf cakes, tea sandwiches, and the list goes on. The food looks amazing, and I’m damn certain I’ll be having one of everything.

“Okay, so Finn isn’t on board, but I don’t care in the least bit. I’m the one pushing this baby out, so he can suck it up and deal with it like a man. Anyway, I want a circus theme.”

“Oh, goodness, that’ll be adorable!” I squeal, and all the DeLancy sisters except Olivia look at me like I’m crazy.

“Right! Finn told me it was silly, but again, I’m the one pushing these babies out. So, he can deal with it.”

Whoa. Hold up a second.

Did I hear her right?

I think I’ve misheard her, but everyone at the table looks at her the same way I am. They’re absolutely dumbfounded. “Olivia, is there something you’ve failed to tell us?” Désirée is the one who asks the question.

“Fuck, I just ruined the surprise for you guys . . . but you’re the ones helping me plan the baby shower. I want to do this circus theme with two of everything, to announce the news we’re expecting twins.” Olivia smiles from ear to ear, and every single one of us is beaming smiles right at her.

“How exciting!” Sabine comments and the group nods eagerly.

“Yeah, so, I want to have double of everything because of these babies.” Olivia pauses to stare at her growing stomach and cradles it. “They’re going to be double trouble, and I have no doubts.”

“Of course they are.” Madelaine laughs. “They have DeLancy blood in them. I don’t know much about the Brisbane family, but I know enough about Finn to know he’s trouble too.”

“Fuck, you’ll have your hands full,” Sabine adds.

Meanwhile, Désirée is staying quiet as can be. She seems so upset, but no one is bringing up that fact. Rémy told me she’s seeing some guy, but he doesn’t want to meet the family. I think it’s weird, but it’s not my place to judge. Maybe he knows them and is afraid of some sort of altercation. Regardless, it’s no one’s business, and I hope Rémy and the rest of the men will see that soon.

“There’s another surprise. Finn only thinks I’m pregnant with one baby, so I want to shock him,” Olivia tells the group of us, and we all start laughing, even Désirée.

“Okay, so tell me what the plan is. I have to know!” Madelaine exclaims, really liking the fact she’s in on this secret.

“I don’t have a clue. That’s where the rest of you come in. I need my sisters’ help—all of them.” Olivia locks eyes with each of us one at a time, and smiles widely.

Olivia looks around the room and clears her throat. “I said I need all of my sisters’ help!”

“Jesus, Liv. What’s with the sass?” Madelaine grumbles at her, and the next thing we all know, Rémy’s walking inside with a bouquet of cornflowers. What? This is my country’s national flower and my favorite flower in the entire world.

“Corentina, I have something I’d like to ask you,” Rémy says in an “oh, so serious” tone.

My stomach drops and I’m terrified. “What the hell is happening right now?”

Madelaine grabs me by the arm and physically makes me get up out of my chair. Meanwhile, I turn back to glance at the girls, and Olivia’s grinning from ear to ear. Madelaine pushes me toward Rémy, and he hands me the flowers.

“I’m sure you’re wondering why I’m here, so I’m going to let you in on a little secret. From the first moment I saw you, I knew you were going to be special to me. Only, I didn’t know how special you’d truly be. You stood by my side when the world tried to bring us down, and still, you stand by my side, no matter what obstacle is in front of us. Most women who faced a situation like you did would’ve run. They would’ve run as fast as they could . . . but you heard me out, and it solidified how important you are in my life. So much so, that I never want to risk losing you ever again.”

Rémy drops down on one knee, and I gasp as the reality hits me straight in the face. “Corentina, I love you. I love you so much, and I don’t ever want to live another day without you by my side, in my bed, waking up to you every morning, and—”

“And screwing her in the most inappropriate of places!” Madelaine yells from the back, causing everyone to bust out into laughter.

Rémy takes a couple moments to gather himself, but adds in Madelaine’s suggestion. “And screwing you in the most inappropriate of places. So, I come here to ask you if you’d do me the honor of being my wife. We’ve already proven we can make this work through the worst of it, so let’s show the world how much of a power couple we can be in the best of circumstances. Corentina, will you marry me?”

He was just able to get his marriage to Brittney annulled, so this is happening very fast. We knew their marriage meant nothing, but that happened less than two weeks ago . . . and he’s already doing this? I guess he never waits for what he wants.

I nod without question and stutter out my answer, “Y-yes. Yes, I will!”

Rémy opens up the box, and the light shines on the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen. It’s in an old antique setting with emeralds encasing the diamond. He slides it onto my ring finger, and I stare down in awe of what just happened. Meanwhile, the ladies are all clapping and smiling off to the side.

“Now it’s official—you’re officially my sister.” Olivia beams excitedly, and Rémy rises. He pulls me into his arms and plasters the most sensual kiss we’ve ever had.

This is what happiness is, and I’m ecstatic I finally have it.
