He reacts in time to avoid Priest’s intended target of his throat, but not fast enough to avoid it entirely. He hisses as it plunges into his shoulder, driving through the hard leather of his jacket.

It’s the distraction Priest needs to make a run for it. He shoves a now unstable Julian back and he collides with me, taking the two of us down in one shot.

Julian reacts quickly, springing back to his feet in the next second as Priest hightails it down the corridor.

I get to my feet too. “Why did you let him go?”

He grins. “I didn’t.”

“What?”

He rips the blade from his flesh with a grunt. “I didn’t come alone.”
