I squeeze my phone so tight, I’m sure I’m close to crushing it. “Love you too, princess.”
It’s a bitch of a thing, but I manage to force myself to hang up.
I spin around to tell Charlotte what’s going on, but she holds up her hand, telling me, “I already got it, you don’t need to waste time explaining to me.”
Of course I don’t. She’s amazing like that.
“Let’s gear up. Two-minute window to head on out.”
“Yeah,” I agree. “It’s a good thing we’re a hell of a lot closer than Ax is to all this.”
“He’s still going to ride like hell down to the city though, isn’t he?”
“There’s a high chance. All the more reason for us to be there way ahead of him. When Roxana is in trouble, there’s no line for Ax, no reason. He’ll rain down hell on earth.”
“And you won’t?”
I start back toward the house with her jogging to keep up with me. “We’re about to find out.”
