The past four years have been hell.

“They think we’re fucking?” Asher bursts into laugher.

“Hey, asshole, you would only be so lucky to be tapping this.” I smack my ass as I turn around in his room, looking at his trophies.

“I was cockblocked from the get-go. I guess I should be grateful to be tapping that ass in rumor.”

I shake my head at him and laugh. I wonder what Jace saw that made him think I was with Asher. We hadn’t done anything that would make someone think we were more than just friends.

“Damn right. But if I was you, I’d watch my back next Friday. Rebels versus Kings. Gonna be an amazing game.”

It’s all everyone has been talking about, the first game of the season. The schools are rivals, and even though I love football, I don’t get caught up in all that shit. It’s the game that excites me.

“Who you gonna cheer for? Me or them?”

I turn to him and tap my finger on my chin.

“Or your dad,” Asher adds. “He’s been an amazing coach.”

“Mmm…tough decision. I love my dad, and you’re okay, I guess.” He pouts, and I chuckle. “They didn’t speak to me for the rest of the day, so I don’t think I’m in their good graces…yet.” I poke my tongue out at Asher when he rolls his eyes. “I guess I can wear blue…might fire them up and help us Rebels to win.”

Asher flops onto his bed. “You’re playing with fire, woman, and I’m only too happy to stoke it. Just to watch the Rebels burn.” He rolls off his bed and goes into his wardrobe before throwing a ball of blue fabric my way. “It’s a spare…and has my number.”

I hold up the navy blue jersey he gave me, the number thirty on the back. It’s big—I’ll be swimming in it—but I grin.

Maybe I’ll wear it. If they don’t speak to me all week, then I will. To support family…and maybe it will make Jace so angry that he’ll speak to me. I’ll have to see.

“So, stepbro, are there any parties tonight?”

He grins. “I thought you would never ask. Wear that, and we’ll go.” He points to the jersey in my hands.

“Only this?” I arch my brow.

He rolls back onto his bed and groans. “Tell me again why we can’t make these rumors true?”
