Page 4 of Bleeding Crowne

I quickly pull off the T-shirt I was wearing and tear it before wrapping it around the wound on her stomach to hopefully stop the bleeding for now. I scramble toward her head and start CPR. She’s still unconscious and hasn’t moved since we brought her out of the water.

I open her airway and then start with chest compressions just as Luna and Avery run back over to us with the blankets I sent them for.

“One… two… three… four… five...” I count out the chest compressions all the way to thirty before leaning down to give her two breaths.

Nothing happens and I have to do it three more times before she finally starts to cough. I quickly turn her onto her side so she can cough out all the water. Fucking hell! I’ve never been so relieved about anything in my entire life.

When it looks like she’s done, I put her on her back again and a groan escapes her. She looks up at me, but her eyes are unfocused. I’m not sure she’s even seeing anything right now. A second later, her eyes flutter closed again, and I almost panic for a second time until I put my fingers to her neck and feel her pulse.

“Did you guys get the doctor?” I ask the girls. They’re all crying, but Riley manages to nod yes.

Without waiting, I grab the blankets and wrap her in them before lifting her into my arms and hurrying back to the house with everyone close on my heels. No one utters a single word the whole way back.
