“I don’t give a shit about her. What I give a shit about is you answering me,” he snaps and when I ignore him, he grabs my jaw and turns my face around to look at him. “Were you with him?” he seethes.

“Wouldn’t you like to know?” I smirk at him. “But again, let me save you the trouble, none of your fucking business!”

“Oh, baby, you’ll always be my business. I’m not done with you. Trust me, baby, you won’t know what fucking hit you. You’re mine even if I have to steal you away and keep you locked away in a basement. We’re done when I say we’re done and that ain’t happening anytime soon,” he says, giving me one of his deranged smirks.

“Well, I’m done with you!” I snap right back at him.

“You’re looking at the new and improved version of me. If you thought I was crazy before, you haven’t seen anything yet, baby. So, get ready for me,” he says before I push him away.

I get out of my car and lock it before walking away, not saying another word to him. I’m confused. I can’t seem to figure out the asshole anymore. He’s so fucking hot and cold, but I have to say, it did feel liberating to stand up for myself. Putting myself first for once is the best feeling in the world.

As I walk up the walkway to the building I need to get to, I can feel the stares and whispers as I walk by. No doubt people are talking about everything that happened to me the last time I was here. And just like that, the memories of all the bullying in these walls comes back full force.

I almost stumble at the force of the memories but try to push them to the back of my mind. This is a new start, and I will not let what happened in the past taint that. I wish it was easier said than done but sometimes you just have to fake it until you make it, isn’t that right?

When I get to the dean’s office, I knock and then hear her tell me to come in a second later through the closed door.

“Miss Crowne, it’s so good to see you. How are you, dear?” she asks as she motions for me to sit in the chair in front of her desk.

“I’m doing fine, thanks for asking,” I say. When I look at her, I see the knowing glint in her eyes. I know she’s seen the news and I don’t know if it’s pity I see in her gaze or if she’s just trying hard not to ask questions.

Because that’s all people want when they see me. They want to gossip and ask questions about all the things they’ve seen. With me being quiet, it’s given them more ammo to come to their own conclusions.

I haven’t said anything because at this point, I don’t care what they think anymore. I’m over it and my reputation has already been torn to shreds, so what’s the point. The only thing I need to focus on is keeping the business afloat and not let people’s opinions of me matter.

“What can I help you with today?” she asks in a sweet voice.

“I’m going to need help to withdraw from all my classes for now until I’m ready to complete them. Things at Crowne Enterprises have been hectic as you can imagine. I would however still like to have access to the lab to continue working on one of my projects. In exchange, obviously, I’ll still be making donations to the school,” I tell her and watch as she takes it all in.

“Absolutely. Not a problem at all. I’ll update your record for you personally,” she tells me.

“Thank you,” I murmur before getting up to leave.

“Don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you need help with anything else,” she says just as I reach her door.

“Thanks again. The gesture is very much appreciated,” I say before stepping out and shutting the door behind me. One task for the day is complete, and it feels great.

Whore, slut, what the hell is she doing here? I’m surprised she’s even showing her face here again…

I hear all the words being whispered in the halls as I make my way through, though if I can hear then they aren’t doing a good job of whispering. Obviously, they want me to hear what they have to say.

It still boggles my mind how much power the guys have now. They made sure an entire school hates me and that takes some serious skill.

I’m halfway down the hall when a flash of black hair catches my eye and I wonder if I’m seeing correctly.

“Adley?” I say, walking up to the girl. When she turns around, I let out a squeal. “Oh my God, it is you! I didn’t think I’d see you again. What are you doing here?” I ask, pulling her into a hug.

“Oh my gosh! It’s so good to see you again, Winter!” she says excitedly, returning my hug. “Well, since I might be here for a while, I figured I’d kill some time by enrolling in some classes.”

“Really? You couldn’t get a job or something to occupy your time? You must like school if this is what you’re choosing,” I say laughing, and she joins in.

“Since you put it like that, I do sound like a weirdo,” she grumbles.

“Nah, you’re probably the more normal one out of the two of us,” I say laughing.

“I wouldn’t be so sure about that,” she says in a wistful voice, like her mind is a million miles away.

“What’s your number? That way we’ll have contact with each other, and we can hang out soon. I need to run to my doctor appointment,” I tell her. She gives me her number and I promise to text her before leaving.

“Have a good day and good luck with your classes!” I tell her before walking away and heading for the doors.

I make it to my car without any incident and am thankful for that. I don’t see Mason or any of the other guys so that is also a plus if you ask me. Without waiting any longer, I start the car and head out of the parking lot to my doctor’s office.
