I step into my office and take a seat behind my desk. I turn to stare out the window, looking down at the tiny people going about their day and wish I had the peacefulness of doing the same without having eyes on me constantly. At this point, I know that’s just wishful thinking and nothing else. A few minutes later, Carson and Chase walk into my office and Chase shuts the door behind them.

“What’s going on? The reporters have been in my face since earlier today,” I ask as both of them take a seat on the chairs in front of my desk.

“Have you seen the news or the papers, anything?” Carson asks.

“No. Remember the funeral was today, so I didn’t get a chance to go online at all,” I tell them.

“Okay, do you want the bad news or the extremely bad news first?” Chase asks sheepishly.

“I guess the bad one first. Or wait! The extremely bad because the bad will lessen the blow, right?” I ask, pondering it for a second. “Just hit me with it so we can get started on damage control.”

“First, the SEC are about to investigate us on reports of insider trading,” Carson says grimly.

“What the hell? We’ve never been involved with insider trading before, and we’ve made it a point to keep the company clean!” I exclaim.

“That’s not all,” Chase says, wincing.

“Please tell me how this can possibly get worse,” I groan as I cradle my head with my hands, already feeling a headache coming on.

“Well, umm, we’re also going to be investigated by the FBI,” Carson says, his voice apologetic.

“What? Why?” I ask incredulously.

“That hotel property we bought in New York last year, well, someone has made reports that the company was using it for sex trafficking.”

“What the what now?” I shriek. “Please tell me this is a fucking joke!”

“Sorry but it’s all true, my dear. The story broke this morning, and the office has been in a state of chaos since,” he tells me while giving me a look of pity.

Ugh! Now I definitely feel like a total and utter failure because none of this shit ever happened when my father was around.

“What do we do to fix it?” I ask, well, more like plead since I’m way out of my element here. “Did we get a copy of this so-called report?”

“We’re waiting on the detectives to send it over. But don’t worry, I’ll see what I can do to fix it and work with both the SEC and the FBI since I know you’re going through a tough time. I’ll keep you in the loop if we need to make any big decisions. That’s why I called you over today so that I could make you’re aware of what’s happening,” Carson tells me.

“I truly appreciate everything you’re doing for me, and I’ll never be able to thank you enough,” I say to express how grateful I am to him right now.

Just then, I remember the words Alister said to me a few days ago and I curse under my breath. Motherfucker!

I’m guessing this is all his fucking fault. I don’t know how he did it but I’m going to find out!

“I’ll be back in half an hour to help with what I can,” I tell both of them before grabbing the key for the other car I have here and storm out of my office. I get in my car and drive straight to the King’s mansion, hoping that Alister is there.

My tires come to a screeching halt as I pull up to the front of the mansion and I storm out of the car and into the house. I don’t even bother saying anything to anyone as I make my way straight to Alister’s office. I don’t even knock, instead, I fling the door open and make my way inside.

“You unimaginable bastard!” I snarl at him.

“What can I do for you, babe?” he asks with a smirk firmly planted on his face.

“Eww! Don’t fucking call me that, you sick pervert! What the hell did you do?” I snap.

“I have no idea what you mean,” he says, acting all innocent but the smirk on his stupid face says differently.

“You know exactly what I’m talking about, asshole!” I roar at him.

“Watch your fucking language and how you talk to me in my own home, little girl!” he snaps back, and I can finally see the anger and hatred in his gaze.

“Or what? You’re going to threaten me again? If you think you’re going to get away with this stunt you pulled, then you’re sorely mistaken. I know it was you!” I yell. I don’t know how the hell he did it but I know it was him, and now my company is under fire for no other reason than this man’s vendetta against me. “When the hell are you going to act like an adult instead of a brainless teenager! You’re literally fighting with someone half your age because you can’t stand being second best?” I challenge.
