“Fuck!” I groan out loud.

“Let me get your shoes and then we can leave,” he instructs, and I nod my head, still in a daze. I shudder to think about what could have happened if I was here alone.

When he comes back over, I’m still standing the way he left me. He bends down and taps my leg, motioning for me to lift my foot up. He puts on the first shoe before moving to put on the other.

I look down at him, so confused. I’m still in a fog and my brain isn’t functioning. It’s taking me a while to catch up to everything. Who the hell is this man at my feet? He does things that make me want to kill him and then he does things that are sweet. I don’t know how to differentiate between the two different personalities anymore. Each day I wake up, I never know which version of him I’ll have to deal with and that frustrates me.

“What?” he asks when he looks up at me and sees that I’m staring at him.

“Um, nothing. I don’t know. That was–uh, you didn’t have to do that,” I say, still a bit rattled.

“I know, but I wanted to,” he says simply.

“You confuse the hell out of me. Why are you really here?” I question.

“I told you we saw—” he starts, but I cut him off.

“Not here as in right now. Here, as in why the hell are you in my life again? Just the other day you hated me and now, I don’t know. You’re a fucking mess to sort through, you know that?”

“I guess, you almost dying made me realize that I don’t want you dead, yet,” he says, and I roll my eyes.

“Gee thanks! It’s good to know you plan on killing me someday, just not yet,” I snark.

“That’s not what I said or meant, and you know it!” he growls. “Come on, lets go before the gang sends a search party for you. At this rate, with how things have been, I’m pretty sure they would if you don’t show up soon.”

“They’re still there? I thought they would have left by now.”

“Nope. Still there. They wanted to make sure you’re okay, especially after what happened today,” he tells me, and I let out a sigh at the reminder of today.

“Let’s go then.”
