“How else was I going to save you? Plus, now there’s less of these Russian assholes after a friend of mine,” he tells me.

“You know Adle–I mean, you know Adelaide?”

“Yeah, she’s a friend of mine.”

“Who the hell are you?”

“Well, I guess I should start with telling you I’m your brother since you probably won’t trust me any other way,” he says, like he just told me the fucking weather was sunny and not like he just dropped a mega bomb on me.

“My who-wha-what now? I don’t have a brother!” I say, losing focus and feeling dizzy all of a sudden. Is the room spinning and getting darker? I feel like it is, and my breath is coming out choppy. My body starts to sway and a second later, it’s lights out.

I’mon a soft and comfy bed when I wake up and the feeling is so good, I just want to stay buried under the covers for the rest of my life.

After being strapped to that chair for who knows how many days—

Wait a minute!

I shoot up in the bed and rush to get out of it. The pain in my entire body resurfaces and I groan at the inconvenience of it all. Those big Russian assholes were not playing when it came to the use of their fists and my body.

“Easy there, kid, I don’t want you to hurt yourself,” the guy from earlier says.

“Who the hell are you and where the hell are we?” I demand to know.

He just crosses his arm over his chest and looks at me like it’s taking all his willpower to deal with me. I have my fists raised like I plan on fighting in the MMA or something.

“Is fighter Barbie coming out to play?” he asks, trying to contain his laughter.

“This is so you don’t try any funny business!” I snap.

“Like I said, you’re my sister, so… gross!”

“And like I said before, I don’t have a brother. I’m an only child,” I say, rolling my eyes.

I’m not sure if I’m being stupid or not but most people would probably be running for the hills right about now. But I don’t know… something about this guy makes me calm and I don’t feel like I’m in danger, which is weird as hell since I’ve never even seen or met the guy before.

“Go take a shower and then I’ll answer any questions that you have,” he tells me.

“Oh, I have a lot, mister!” I say and figure I do need a shower since I’ve been sitting in my own sweat, tears, and blood for days.

“Didn’t doubt it,” he says with a smirk that has me narrowing my eyes at him.

I don’t say another word as he shows me where the bathroom is, and he hands me a towel before walking away and leaving me to myself.

I look out the window and there’s nothing but trees for as far as the eye can see. I let out a sigh. This is just great! I’d have to trek through the forest if I planned on escaping and my sense of direction in a forest is zilch.

I’d probably be mauled by some wild animal before I ever got the chance to escape. Knowing I have to listen to this guy and what he has to say is the only way to get out of here, I quickly shower and get dressed in the set of pajamas he left me as well.

If I don’t like what he’s saying or I think he’s lying to me, I can always try the escape route and die trying rather than being stuck here with him.

By the time I’m done and make it to the living room in this cabin, I see he’s already in here and he’s showered and changed as well. The fire is going in the fireplace, and it makes the living room warm and cozy.

“Okay, buddy, start talking!” I demand.

“What do you want to know?” he asks with a smile on his face. Of course, he wouldn’t just tell me shit.

“Well, for starters, where are we?”

“My cabin in Oregon.”
