“Where did you find me?”

“A warehouse in Phoenix.”

“How long was I there for?”

“Four days.”

“And they were looking for Adelaide?”

“Yes.”

“Is she really the heir to a Mafia empire?”

“Yes.”

“Wow that’s–something. How did you find me?”

“The necklace you’re wearing—the one Dad gave you—has a tracking device in it,” he says. My heart instantly aches, hearing him talk about Dad. I touch the necklace around my neck and get choked up.

Is this how he always knew when I sneaked out? Got to give it to Dad he was a clever man because I never would have even thought about there being a tracker in my necklace.

“Then why did it take you four days to find me?” I question. “Wait a minute! How do you know about the tracker in my necklace, since Dad is you know, dead?

“I had to uh go through some papers to find the information to access the tracking device. When he, um, passed away, I received some papers with a range of things that only I needed to know in case of any kind of emergency,” he says and then looks away for a second when I keep staring him down.

“You said you’re my brother?”

“Yes.”

“What’s your name?”

“Hunter Crowne Blackwood,”

“Hunter… Wha–wait a minute! Are you the guy Adelaide has been trying to introduce me to all this time, but you kept disappearing?” I ask incredulously.

“Possibly.”

“Is that why you disappeared, because you didn’t want me to see you?”

“Yes.”

“Why? Wait, did you already know we were siblings?”

“Yes.”

“Then why the fuck didn’t you tell me, asshole?” I grumble.

“Because you weren’t supposed to know I exist. I was just supposed to watch over you and make sure you were fine. But I’ve got to say, sis, you have not made the job easy since you keep getting into trouble. And here I was thinking I was the troublemaker,” he says sarcastically.

“Ha, ha, so funny,” I deadpan. “I don’t think I like having a brother. I was fine being an only child!”

“Nah, you’ll love me soon!” he says, smiling, and he looks so boyish. I know he’s older than me that’s for sure and even without seeing proof, I can see the resemblance. He looks a lot like Dad.

“I need proof,” I tell him.

He shows me his birth certificate and other documents which proves that he is indeed who he says he is. My brother Hunter Crowne.

“Good enough?” he asks.
