“Why didn’t he want you to tell me?” I ask curiously.
“Things are complicated, and we’ll have to talk about that another day,” he murmurs.
“Oh. Well, I still want you to take over. You’re older and I’ve been doing a shit job so far as I’m sure you’ve seen in the news.”
“I saw but all the same, you’ve been going through a lot,” he says.
We have a lull in conversation and just stay on the couch for a while. He turns on the television and we sit there enjoying each other’s company. I kind of feel safe now that I have a brother to protect me.
“Promise me you won’t leave me. I don’t think I’d survive losing you seeing as how I just found you,” I whisper after a while.
“I’ll always be a part of your life from here on out, sis,” he says, bending down to place a kiss on my forehead. There’s a lull in our conversation and I’m happy with the silence and just being here next to my brother. Wow! A brother! I still can’t wrap my mind around that.
I must have fallen asleep right where I was because a loud crash startles me awake. I look up and suddenly five guys are in the living room and Hunter barely manages to push me off of him before one guy is on him, throwing punches. It takes me a second to realize that it’s Mason on him and the two of them go crashing to the floor, rolling around and throwing punches at each other.
“What the hell are you doing with my girl?” he yells while landing a punch to Hunter’s jaw. Hunter retaliates by jabbing him in the stomach and Mason lets out a grunt. I try to move to go in between them, but Grayson grabs me around the waist.
“Let go of me, asshole! I have to stop them from killing each other!” I yell at Grayson, but he ignores me.
“Your ass is in a lot of trouble!” he tells me.
“Hunter! Mason! Will the two of you fucking stop trying to kill each other!” I yell, but once again I’m being ignored.
I stomp on Grayson’s foot, and he lets go of me with a curse. I jump onto Mason’s back and that causes him to let go of Hunter. My brother gets to his feet and stands there watching the guys.
“What the hell, Mase?” I screech at him. He’s breathing heavily which is a sign of how pissed he is.
“Don’t what the hell me, Winter! What the hell are you doing cozying up with this guy? I’ve been searching for you for days!” he yells, and I just roll my eyes at him as he turns back to Hunter. “What the hell, man? You know this is my girl!”
“Wait, you two know each oth–oh never mind, you already told me about this, Hunt,” I say, remembering Hunter telling me about their fights earlier.
“You better tell me what the hell is going on before I make that fucking ass of yours become so red and swollen you won’t be able to sit for a month!” Mason growls. “You have a nickname for this dickhead?” he seethes.
“Don’t call my brother names!” I snap.
“Don’t call your bro–wait, what?” he asks, clearly confused.
“Okay, so you two kind of know each other. I just found out Hunter is my brother— Oops! I’m sorry Hunt. I know you didn’t want anyone else to know that,” I say apologetically.
“It’s fine, sis. It was only a secret before because I needed to know what I was walking in on in Ravenwood. But we’re all good,” he says, and I feel instant relief at his words.
“You have a lot of explaining to do, babe! And you’re not off the hook for leaving without me! I told you someone has to be with you at all times!”
“I know! But in my defense, I didn’t think anyone would kidnap me from right in the parking garage,” I say with a pout.
“I should still slap your ass for your disobedience!” he growls.
“Okay, no brother wants to hear their sister’s boyfriend talking about kinky sex,” Hunter says from across the room, and I cringe.
“Not my boyfriend,” I say.
“The hell I’m not! Say some dumb shit like that again and I won’t care who the hell is around. I’ll strip you and fuck you right here so you can remember who the hell you belong to!” he snaps, and my face instantly goes red.
“Gah! Tone down the caveman vibes you got going on if you want to know what happened,” I say, and he quiets down.
We all find a seat and talk about what happened when I was kidnapped and how Hunter found me. How I found out Hunter is my brother and how the guys all eventually traced me to the warehouse. It was burned down, and I was already gone by the time they got there.
Mason said they managed to get a partial license plate from the car that took me from the garage, and they had to hack into street cameras to keep track of the car. They also hacked into the police database to search for the car, and they went from there.
