“I guess. How come I didn’t know about you?”

“To be fair, Dad didn’t know about me either until about two years ago, which is about a year before he died,” he says with a sad voice.

Just hearing him mentioning Dad makes me burst into tears. He pulls me into his arms as I sob. He braces back on the couch we were sitting on and I’m sort of lying on his chest with his arm wrapped around me and my feet up on the couch.

“So, we have the same dad but different moms?” I ask when I’ve calmed down a bit. That seems like the most logical scenario.

“Correct.”

“Well, how come I didn’t know about you?”

“Well, my mom left Dad before she found out she was pregnant with me and I guess she just never told him,” he says absently while his hand rubs circles on my back.

“And you never wondered?”

“Well, I didn’t know until recently either. Plus, I had a dad. My mom married someone else, and I also have a brother.”

“Oh, will I get to meet him someday?”

“Possibly. He’s a little preoccupied right now, and he travels a lot.”

“How old are you?”

“Twenty-eight.”

I shift to make myself more comfortable and that’s when I notice a helmet on one side of the room and gasp.

“Wait! Are you the guy on the motorcycle who I kept seeing following me around?” I question.

“Uh-huh.”

“Why were you following me?”

“Told you I was making sure you were safe. But I wasn’t doing a very good job of it. Plus, that boyfriend of yours kept getting in the way. It seems like he’s been doing an okay job of helping, though there were a few times I wanted to kill him.”

“Oh, please do,” I say giggling. “But I don’t want to talk about him right now.”

“If it helps, I kicked his ass a few times in the ring back at the warehouse,” he says, smirking.

“Ah, my hero,” I say, beaming up at him. “I wish I’d have gotten an invite to see it though.” I pout.

“Next time I fight him, I’ll call.”

“Does he know?” I ask.

“That I’m your brother?” I nod my head. “No. No one else knows, and I’d like to keep it that way. I also have enemies who wouldn’t think twice about taking you for revenge.”

“Gee, awesome. Do you know who is after me?”

“No. Without actually talking to you, I couldn’t get much information. But whoever it is, is much bigger than us. I might actually need my brother’s help to find that out,” he says, and I nod my head. Everything has been so complicated lately but finding out I have a brother is the best news ever!

“You have to take over Crowne Enterprises. I think Dad would want that,” I say and don’t miss the way he cringes.

“No. That’s yours. Besides, he left me a hefty inheritance.”

“How come I didn’t know about that?”

“That one was done separately with instructions not to tell you.”
