Cara Knox closed the door to her dorm room at Viking Hall and exhaled. She never thought that she’d view this place as a sanctuary, but recent events have deemed it to become one of the few places that still seem “normal” to her.

Coop’s driver had just dropped her off from his Town Car at the rear entrance to the building. Earlier, Cara explained to Coop that she needed some normalcy and wanted to stay in her dorm room and go to class the next day like a regular student.

“Besides, you have a big day tomorrow on the golf course. You better rest up,” Cara had said after breaking the news that he’d be alone tonight.

“You’re right. To be honest, I’m kinda sick of you anyways,” Coop chided.

Cara chuckled as she thought of the exchange, and how even though she wanted normalcy for the evening she already felt herself missing him.

A sudden knock on the door interrupted her train of thought. It had been a long time since anyone had knocked at her door.

Maybe it’s Coop?

Cara opened the door and immediately recognized the smiling face outside her door. Unfortunately, it wasn’t Cooper Madison’s. It was a sophomore from her Statistics class named Brittany, whose last name had escaped Cara.

What does she want?

“Hi… Brittany, right?” Cara asked.

“Hi, Cara!” Brittany replied as if she didn’t even hear Cara’s question.

I’ll take that as a yes...

“What’s up? Do you need help with stats?” Cara asked.

“Oh, no, I was just seeing if you wanted to hang out?”

“Oh… umm… to be honest I am really tired and was planning on getting to bed early. It’s been a long day…”

“Okay! Well, maybe tomorrow?” Brittany replied.

“Maybe…” Cara said as she closed the door, hoping that Brittany would take the hint.

Well, that was weird…

It didn’t take Cara long to come to the realization that Brittany’s visit was no coincidence. After all, Cara had barely spoken to the spunky sophomore in class.

She obviously watched the interview…

A moment later another knock came at the door. Cara, assuming that it was Brittany again, swung the door open without checking first.

As soon as she opened the door a bright flash momentarily blinded her. Once she could see clearly again, Cara noticed a college-aged female running down the hall and out the nearest exit door. She didn’t recognize the girl. Regardless, she hoped that it was just a curious college kid and not a professional who snuck in to get a shot of Cara in her dorm room.

I’m going to have to be more careful opening the door…

Cara decided to hang a makeshift “Do Not Disturb” sign on her door and after that got ready for bed. She was emotionally and physically drained, and it didn’t take long for her to fall asleep.

That sleep, however, was interrupted by the ringing of her dormitory phone just before midnight.

Who the hell is calling me now?

“Hello?” Cara answered.

“Is this Cara?”

The female voice on the other end seemed distant as if it was on a speakerphone. Cara could hear giggling in the background, as well.
