REMI

I’d worked on smoothie combinations every night after work, but I missed Colton’s input. I liked having him in my store. My space.

The irritation I felt for him over the past few years had morphed into something far more dangerous—attraction. I told myself it was a silly crush, left over from childhood when my older sister was dating him. But it felt like more.

His fingers massaging the muscles of my shoulders awakened my body. I wanted his hands everywhere.

Colton was too serious and uptight for me. He wouldn’t agree to something purely physical, would he? But since he left for college, I didn’t know anything about him.

I didn’t know why he dropped out of college to enlist or why he broke things off with my sister. As much time as he spent at my house growing up, he was a mystery to me.

As I remembered how intense he’d been massaging my shoulders, how hard his body felt under mine, my core clenched at the idea of him focusing all his intense energy on pleasing me.

On Friday, I gave in and called him.

“Officer Castle.” His voice was crisp.

“So formal. Is that how you always answer the phone?” I practically purred.

Who was this sex kitten, and where had she come from?

There was silence on the other end of the call, and I worried I’d pushed Colton too far.

“Depends on who’s calling,” he said.

I hadn’t expected Colton to play along. “I was thinking I need some help with my recipes, and you could use some help relaxing.”

I wanted him here, but the offer to help him in return? I didn’t know where that came from. Other than I wanted to see him lose that carefully tethered control. I shivered at the idea of him unleashing it on me.

Before he could respond, I added, “I was having trouble coming up with the winning combination of whey protein and fruit.”

“I can help you with that.”

I smiled. “That’s what I was hoping.”

“And you’ll help me relax?”

Excited at the prospect, I said, “You need to let loose. Have some fun.”

“And you’re the woman to help me do that?” His voice was lighter than usual.

“I can be a lot of fun, Officer Castle.”

I was thinking about taking him out, maybe even introducing him to yoga and a little meditation, but I wouldn’t be averse to some action in the bedroom—or on my juice counter. Too bad my storefront was one large window facing the street.

Standing behind the counter, I ran a hand over the cool surface. If we’d kissed the other night, would it have gone further? Would Colton have dropped to his knees, slid my panties to the side, and put his mouth on my pussy?

“I need your assistance drinking my juices.” I tipped my head back so I was staring at the ceiling. Well, that had an unintended double entendre. I was so bad. Very, very bad.

There was silence, then a booming laugh.

A smile curved over my lips. I felt lighter than when I finished a good session of meditation. My mind felt clear, and I was one hundred percent focused on Colton. When the sound of his laughter died down, I said, “Who knew Colton Castle had a sense of humor?”

“Only when it comes to you.” His response was quick and full of affection.

“I can work with that.” I liked that I might be different for him. Someone special.

Delilah always got the good guys, the ones who stuck around. Why couldn’t I have a guy like that for me, even if it were only for a short time?
