“This is my first time.”

On the sidewalk, Colton touched my elbow, guiding me toward his truck. He opened the door for me.

Climbing inside, I waited for him to round the hood. Once he was settled, he said, “There won’t be any goats, will there?”

He looked nervous.

I laughed. “No, but next time, we’ll do yoga with goats.”

“No, thank you.” Colton said it with such conviction, I couldn’t help but laugh.

When I sobered, I said, “Not your thing?”

He glanced at me. “Definitely not.”

“Somehow, I doubt any form of yoga is you.”

“You know it’s not. But I’m willing to get a little uncomfortable for you.” His shoulders stiffened like he hadn’t meant to admit that.

“And why is that?”

“You think you can relax me, and I’m interested to see if that’s possible.”

Was something else going on here? I was attracted to him, and he clearly admired me in my lace camisole the other night. He’d touched me a few minutes ago and said he loved seeing me rumpled from sleep. It was something you said to someone you were interested in. I wanted to ask him, but the words got stuck in my throat.

I was willing to go along with whatever was happening. I liked spending time with him, and I wanted to show him a different way of being. One that wasn’t so uptight and scheduled.

“Game on, Officer.”

He grinned over at me, and the sight was like a shot to the heart. It skipped a beat and then galloped under my rib cage. “Challenge accepted.”

“Oh no. Are you one of those competition junkies?”

“Possibly. Why? Is that a bad thing?”

“Yoga isn’t about competing. You’re supposed to let go, clear your mind, be one with your body.”

“The question is whether you will be successful in getting me to relax.”

Admiring the strong line of his jaw, I said, “Hmm. It will be a challenge.”

“One you are uniquely suited for.” His voice was gravelly.

“Why do you say that?” I slid my sunglasses on to counteract the bright morning sun, and the question had me feeling a little exposed.

“You’re sunshine on a rainy day. You move through space like you’re going with the flow, not against it.”

“You say that like it’s a good thing.” I thought my positive outlook irritated him.

“I like it.”

Something in his tone told me he was surprised he did. “It sounds like you’re interested in what I have to offer. I might have a leg up in this competition.”

He glanced over at my legs encased in black yoga pants. “I’d say so.”

“Hey!” I slapped his thigh, but the contact with his hard, warm muscle had me pulling back as quickly as the impromptu move.

His jaw tightened.
