Slowly, Conner pulled the cover down. Olivia’s cheeks burned a brighter red than he had ever seen before. The instant Arya saw Olivia hiding under the covers, she cupped her hands to her mouth and dropped her head in shame.

“Forgive me,” Arya mumbled. “I thought…”

“I ken what ye thought,” Conner said. “But stop waggin’ yer tongue. The Lady kens very well who is in my bed.”

“Aye,” Arya said as she bobbed her head. Slowly the servant lifted her eyes and cracked a smile. The tension in the room dissipated as Arya gave a sharp bow and rushed out of the room in such a haste, Conner couldn’t help but wonder what news the servant would spread.

“Well,” Olivia said, glaring at Conner. “It would seem I have at least one loyal servant here.”

“Did ye hear how she defended ye?” Conner chuckled as Olivia crawled out from the foot of the bed. “She really thought I was wit’ another.”

“Wonder where she got that idea from?” Olivia asked suspiciously.

“Come now,” Conner huffed. “Ye think I would be such a man to keep a lass like ye far from me?”

“Well, seein’ as how it took ye this long to finally give me yer heart, aye. I think ye would.”

Conner shook his head. He reached out to her and cupped his hands around her face, refusing to let her eyes slip from his. “Ye have stolen my heart and I’ve given ye my soul in exchange for yers. There will never be another to come between us. Dae ye understand? Olivia, I am yers completely.”

Her eyes grew darker as he pressed his lips to her cheeks and nose. Kissing every inch of her face, he finally landed on her lips.

“Dae ye believe me?” he asked as he pressed his forehead to hers.

“Nay,” she said playfully. “Nae one bit.”

Conner curled his arms around her and pulled her close. He kissed her hard and passionately. Olivia didn’t struggle or push back, but molded her body into his.

“I should get dressed and ready for the day,” Conner said.

“Can we nae just stay in bed today?”

“There is too much that needs to be done. Besides, it looks to be a lovely day. Dae ye nae want to go for a ride and get some fresh air?”

“Will ye come wit’ me?” she batted her long lashes at him as her leg drifted over his hips.

The way she chewed her lower lip enticed him. He could think of nothing better than to get out of the castle with her. But if he wanted to get started tracking down his mother and sister, he would need to do it as soon as possible.

“How about a compromise,” he said tilting his head. “I work for half the day and we take a ride at dusk. Watch the sunset by the loch?”

“That does sound lovely,” Olivia cooed. Conner grabbed her leg and pulled it off him. He couldn’t help but chuckle at the way she pouted.

“I cannae get started if ye’ll nae let me go,” Conner said. “And the sooner I start, the sooner we can leave.”

“Fine,” Olivia huffed as she threw herself into the pillows, allowing him to move freely.

Conner sat upright and slipped off the bed. He dressed quickly, trying not to pay her any mind. He knew if he stole even one glimpse of her, he’d lose all his nerve to leave. It blew his mind at how much power her pout had over him.

“I’ll see ye later then,” she said as he moved to the door. Conner glanced over his shoulder and caught Olivia snuggling into the pillows and suddenly a rush of jealousy washed through him.

“Soon,” he vowed as he walked out of the room.

All Conner could think of was the way she curled into the pillow and how badly he wished it was his body she clung to. Every moment without her by his side caused his heart to ache. Even as he sat at his desk toiling over the names of those serving in the castle all those years ago, his mind was on her.

“Now ye look like a burnin’ man.”

Conner glanced at the doorway and smiled. Damon leaned against the threshold, arms crossed over his chest with a smirk that taunted Conner.

“What is it yer doin’?” Damon asked, pushing off and moving to the desk.
