“I thought ye would be angry wit’ me,” she mumbled into his chest. Conner stroked the back of her head as she fell into his chest. Holding her, he couldn’t believe the news, but slowly the pieces started falling into place.

“Ye silly lassie, why would I ever be mad at somethin’ so wonderful?”

“I just ken ye have a lot goin’ on right now. I didnae want to add to yer worries, but I ken I had to tell ye.”

“And ye’ve seen the healer?”

“Aye,” Olivia said as she nodded.

“This is fantastic news,” Conner said finding it hard not to smile. “News that must be shared. We will have a banquet in yer honor.”

“Conner, that is a bit much, daenae ye think?”

“My faither did it for me, and so I shall dae it for the unborn child so that it kens how much it is wanted and loved.”

Tears dripped from Olivia’s eyes. Conner’s brushed the back of his hand to clear her tears. “This is a joyous moment, please be happy.”

“I am,” Olivia said as a huge smile stretched across her face. She threw her arms around his neck and kissed him. Conner couldn’t help but chuckle as he caught her.

“Now, shall we tell everyone else?” Conner asked.

“I’ll have to write to my family,” Olivia said with glee in her voice. “Tell them the news. Dae ye think we should tell the King?”

“Aye, it would be wise to inform him of the news,” Conner said brushing loose strands of hair from Olivia’s face. “But first.”

Conner moved to the door of the study and paused. Although he wanted to share his excitement, he knew it was not just his decision to make. Turning, he glanced to Olivia. His eyebrow arched as he pleaded with his eyes.

Holding his breath, he waited for Olivia’s response. It was just a light twitch of her lip at the corner, but it was all the confirmation Conner needed. Pulling open the doors, he stepped out in to the hallway.

“The Lady is wit’ child.” Conner’s voice boomed through the castle causing everyone to stop. It didn’t take long before heads popped out of doorways and the council and elders rushed to the room.

“Say again?” Sionn said, shock riddled his face.

“The Lady is wit’ child,” Conner said emphasizing each and every word. Sionn’s mouth dropped for a moment as the shock over took him. It didn’t take long for Sionn to correct his emotional response. Conner patted him on the shoulder and nodded. The castle erupted in a round of applause that only seemed to fill Conner up with even more joy than he had ever had before.

“That is fantastic news,” Sionn said as he glanced around Conner. “Congratulations.”

“We are excited,” Olivia said as she moved closer to Conner.

“A feast to celebrate,” Conner ordered. The servants disappeared back to work with the buzzing of the news. It seemed as if the dark, black cloud that lingered over the castle lifted. For the first time in a long time, Conner noticed the colors around him.

“Are ye certain a feast is a good idea? What if Joseph comes back?” Olivia asked in hushed tones.

Conner smiled at her and grabbed her hand. “Nothin’, and I mean nothin’ will hurt ye or our bairn. Dae ye understand? I’ll nae allow it.”

“Yer nae lockin’ the castle down are ye?”

“If that is what it takes to keep the two of ye safe, then that is precisely what I’ll dae,” Conner said as he felt the worries and troubles of the world crashed down on him. “I will nae lose ye. I willnae.”

Dearest Faither,

I have wonderful news. Conner and I are expectin’ our first child. Can ye believe it? I cannae. It all seems so surreal to me still. We only found out a day ago, but it still hasnae hit me.

I dae hope that ye will come to celebrate wit’ us. Conner is havin’ a feast. He tells me it is tradition for his family to honor the first born in this manner.

Look forward to seeing ye soon,
