Chapter Thirteen

Arabelle quickly slipped into a summer dress. She was already late for her Wednesday errand day.

After the business dinner had ended and they had said goodbye to their last guest, Silas had scooped her up and carried her upstairs.

He had removed the toy and butt plug from her and she embarrassed herself when she couldn’t control her body and came. That just triggered Silas and he made her come twice more before he left her.

The loneliness he had left behind put her back into the turmoil of her emotions. Apart from obeying him and never repeating the word divorce to him again, she was still pretty much in the same boat as she was before.

It still wasn’t a marriage.

He had left for a business meeting in Tokyo the day after the dinner and he still hadn’t returned. She hated that she missed him. That she had spent the days during his absence moping in a low-key way.

She had already decided she was going to only do the essentials today like shop for Jeanny, and visit Everleigh because she wasn’t doing too well again, but skip milkshakes with her friends and visiting the library. Her father wasn’t home today so she would see him another day.

But she decided on waking up that morning to mope around would be dangerous. So she forced a spring into her step and made herself excited to see her friends even though she worried she might break down and tell them everything that was wrong with her so-called marriage.

She felt as if she were taking two steps back all the time. And then the idea that Silas and his brothers, while proven to be legitimate businessmen, belonged to a world she didn’t quite understand. He had admitted he was a bad man and she believed him.

She felt bad for making Jurgen wait for her and was grateful when Alice handed her a flask of coffee as she passed her by. But she stopped to a dead halt when instead of seeing Jurgen’s jovial face waiting for her, she found Silas instead.

“You’re back,” she said and bit her lip. His gaze traveled down her body, taking in every inch of her. She blushed a painful red in his presence.

“I am.”

“Is Jurgen here?”

“He’s not driving today. I am.”

She wondered perhaps if he wasn’t feeling well but she heard his raucous laughter coming from the kitchen when Alice had handed her the coffee.

“Umm... No. That’s all right. I’m sure I’ll be fine on my own.” She walked past him, her car keys, her sunglasses, and her coffee in her hands, her bags over her shoulders, her phone, tucked under her arm. She looked so disorganized.

She gasped when Silas passed her by but at the same time, snatched her keys from her hands and strode to her car.

She stopped and glared at him. Half of her wanted to turn around and go back inside the house but she had to shop for Jeanny, and see Everleigh who was first on her list.

Exhaling loudly, and mad that he just assumed he could drive her car where Jurgen twice his size had humbly sat in the passenger seat. Silas had to push her seat back as far as it could go to accommodate his long legs.

Harrumph.

She decided she wasn’t going to say anything when instead of asking her where she wanted to go Silas just started driving.

“Were you always this pushy?”

“Always.”

“That I believe. I bet your mother could collaborate that.”

“My mother died when I was really young. My father died when I was even younger.”

“I’m sorry. I…” She didn’t know anything about him. He was her husband, and she knew nothing about him.

“I’m sorry.”

He turned and his gaze stayed on her. She was the first to look away.

When he headed toward Everleigh’s house she put it down as a lucky guess.
