Damn it. I was so cold.

A large shadow loomed over me. “I won’t touch you. Just get on my ground pad. I’ll put the sleeping bag over us.” I poked my head around the fire and looked at his sleeping bag. My arms shivered. The wind whipped up dust.

This is not a good idea…

I remained silent and slid out of my bag then walked the four steps to his. I bent down, scooted onto the pad, and turned onto my hip, away from his side. A few moments later, I felt him sprawl onto the ground behind me, and a bulky sleeping bag engulfed me.

The heat from his body began radiating into mine. I wanted to moan again. Instead, I closed my eyes, but my treacherous body edged closer to his warmth.

I shouldn’t lead him on.

Another cold blast of air kicked over the rocks, forcing me to clench into a tighter ball.

I should feel guilty for the kiss, but I don’t. What kind of horrible person does that make me?

I’d jerked away from him and now wanted to be closer to him. I shouldn’t give him something to hope for. I needed to stay right here and tough it out.

Stay!

A heavy arm swept around my waist and nudged me closer to his whole body. “You’re still shivering.”

His breaths calmly flowed in and out of his chest.

I waited.

His hand didn’t venture away from my waist—not higher, and not an inch lower.

I nested back into his chest and tucked my head under his chin. Listening to the calm beat of Logan’s heart, the veil of sleep slipped over me as quickly as Logan’s warmth.
