"So are you the designated driver tonight?" My sister asks as I take a seat next to her. Teddy is a lot like me. Quiet.
"Maybe?" I look over at Hadden and Willa dancing around like they don't have a care in the world, "Probably...yeah."
Teddy laughs. She's not going to be doing anything wild and crazy tonight either. "You should let loose and have fun just for one night."
"Yeah right. I don't think I can 'let loose'. I'm the oldest. It's my job to take care of the rest of you."
"Me either." She sighs and I notice she's a little distracted tonight. "How sad is it that our youngest sisters are either getting married or getting laid for the night and here we sit nursing the one drink we allow ourselves and watching everyone else live their lives?"
Damn, Teddy is in a mood. But she’s not wrong either. "What I wouldn't give to be somebody’s bad habit?"
"What? Why?" Teddy looks over at me and I realize I must have spoken out loud what I was secretly thinking. I've gone this far, I might as well tell her what I mean.
"Because no one ever kicks a bad habit. Not really. That way I would always have someone who needs me desperately."
"Damn Charlie, that's going in a book."
I share a laugh with her as my eyes are drawn over to the bar and it doesn't take me long to figure out why. The blue-haired guy who owns a bike shop across the street from mom store is hanging out there. Damn, I bet that man has a lot of bad habits that he wouldn't ever try to get rid of. And I wouldn't mind being one of them. I enjoy watching him from across the street when I help mom out. Seeing him fix a bike is hot as fuck!
"Is that the new guy?"
"Yeah, I think so." Damn, she must have followed the path my eyes took. Teddy misses nothing. She's a writer so she's always watching, listening, and observing.
"Oooh, new guy? What's his story?" Willa sits down and another little part of my soul shrinks back into big sister mode. Willa can have any man she wants. It’s not going to take much for her to have someone like Sebastian Lane.
"Rumer has it he's been to prison." Hadden has to put her two cents in. Not to mention she's stunning too. She could just as easily be a model if she applied herself enough. Instead, she'd rather spend her time being the wild child of our group.
"Ooh, a bad boy." Willa straightens her back and pushes her tits forward.
"He can't be too bad if Sheriff Knight is talking to him." Teddy stands up for someone she hasn't even met yet. God love her, I think she might have the biggest heart out of all of us.
Before I know what’s happening the sheriff is coming over to our table and introducing everyone to Sebastian. He lingers while touching my hand to shake it. It might be because Hadden and the sheriff are arguing loudly and he's in shock that the good sheriff is being so uncharacteristically unlike himself. But I would love to pretend it's because he wants to touch me longer. Spend more time with our skin touching one another.
Finally, he lets go and waits for his friend to come back over to him. I look over at Teddy but she seems to be talking to Willa's friend.
"You want another one?" He points to the fruity drink I ordered to nurse all the way through the night.
"Oh, um, I..." I look to Teddy again but she’s not done talking to Reef. The two even get up and leave me sitting before I can answer Sebastian's question. Shit. "I don't really drink. I'm usually the driver."
Better to tell him I'm no fun right upfront than to drag this on any longer. I'm sure he'll want to find some other entertainment for the night besides me, I’m about as entertaining as watching paint dry -and I would know, I'm an artist.
"Well," He shocks me by not even trying to move away, "Payton and Hadden seem to have half the island's police force keeping up with them for the night." I look over and see Payton dancing in Ford's arms and Dirk is all but dragging Hadden out of the room.
"Willa seems to have some tall guy sniffing around and Teddy just left to dance with Willa's friend."
Shit. Shit, shit, shit!
"Looks like it's just you and me."
