"Hey," he said, subtly but deliberately smiling at me.

I politely nodded and walked away from him. His footsteps were getting closer, but I carried on. Seeing him and the other dangerous-looking quiet man sittingin the driver's seat of an expensive Porsche just a few feet away reminded mewhy I had been scared in the first place.

"What's your name?" he asked me.

I knew I probably shouldn't tell him, but I thought, what the hell.

"It's Vanessa," I said as I continued walking. The end of the alley was just ahead, and I could see a few taxis up the road. All I had to do was walk faster than him.

"Vanessa," he said with a thick Irish accent that nearly made me turn around and smile, but I resisted. I had no intention of flirting with him back. He was simply too dangerous.

"It's a lovelyname. I'm—"

"I'm sorrybut," I turned around and walked away from him as I spoke,"I don't want to know you or anything like that. I hope you respect that.”

He came to a halt, and instinctively, I did too.

"Just so you know, I will do anything to make you mine," he said as he moved closer to me. I could swear that, on that moment, breathing became an overly demanding task.

"First and foremost, I am not an object to be owned, and second, I am not interested," I told him, staring up at his face.

In one swift motion, he grabbed my waist. His hands were gentle but large and firm. I knew that struggling would have been pointless.

My gaze followed his movement as he leaned closer and closer to my face. I should have moved out of the way of his sexy-looking lips or yelled at him, but I didn't.

He's holding me. That was an adequately sufficientexcuse I told myself.

When I felt his warm breath on my cheek, I closed my eyes. It grazed my tender flesh, and for a split second, I let a complete stranger do whatever he wanted to me.

His mouth came tomy ear, and I heardhis voice in my chest. "You should run."

I abruptly turned my head away from him in a shock. He was smiling, but his eyes were cynical. I quickly backed away from him, trying to compose myself. It was terrifyinghow easily he could threaten me without appearing malicious.

"I want you now, and I will not stop until I haveyou," he said.

How did I get myself into such a mess?I wondered as I stared at the tall man in front of me.

Bold face,I reminded myself and started walking awayconfidently. I caught his gaze just as I was about to turn away from him. He had a smirk on his face as he watched me walk away, silently tellingme we'd meet again someday. I clenched my fists, furious at myself for allowing him to get so close to me.

I hid my fear as I dashed to catch up with the crowds of people making their way to their various destinations that night.

Who are you?I wondered as I climbed into the back of a taxi, but I knew it was better not to know.
