My eyes locked on his. “Like alcohol? Any fast food?”

“I don’t drink that much when I go out,” he muttered under his breath.

“Uh huh. You also need to rest it. Chasing women three nights a week is tough on your knees, Beau,” I said, hearing a hint of bitterness in my voice which I immediately regretted.

Beau was his own man. He wasn’t my real boyfriend. Nothing and nobody was telling him not to continue being his regular player self.

The girls he picked up I’m sure all owned televisions or some kind of social media. In all likelihood they’d seen that we were a supposed couple. But I knew some women got off on stealing other women’s boyfriends and husbands.

I never understood that. Why you’d find a cheap thrill in breaking up or causing strife in a marriage or relationship, I’d never get.

“I’m not chasing women three nights a week,” he said with a sharp tongue.

“Four?” I shot back, then chastised myself again. I needed to stop this. Beau would get the mistaken but actual quite real hint that I was jealous.

And man, was I ever.

He didn’t respond to my comment, so I quickly wrapped his knee up with the two ice packs and the ACE bandage overtop holding it all in. I also stuffed a pillow under his knee to elevate it. “I’ll come back in twenty minutes,” I said, then moseyed back to the island where my laptop was.

I was barely into my assignment when I heard a puppy squeal out in obvious pain. Without even thinking, I jumped off my stool and ran down the hall where the noise had come from.

When I got into my room, I saw the boy puppy with something I really, really, really didn’t want him to get into.

“What the fuck?” Beau said from behind me. I could feel the heat radiating off his body.

“I’ll deal with it, you go back to the couch.” I spun around quickly, attempting to usher him out of my room.

“What the hell’s in his mouth?” he asked, brushing passed me. “Are you kidding me? You left this on your floor?” Then he held up what he’d just wrestled away from the puppy—my very pink, very well charged up vibrator.

If I could have somehow disappeared into the floorboards, I would have done it that second. Gosh, Beau Moreau, star hockey forward, man I’ve had a crush on for over a decade—not only knew I used a vibrator, he was currently holding it.

“It wasn’t on the floor, he must’ve chewed on the cord or something,” I said, rushing to investigate further. Sure enough, I saw black marks on the cord where it looked chewed. There was a slightly burnt smell in the air.

“Oh no, he must’ve gotten shocked,” I whispered, panic beginning to set in. I picked up the naughty puppy and checked him over. No signs of anything horrible, but I didn’t know what could happen to a puppy if he got an electric shock from a vibrator. “I should call Dr. Barnes,” I said, then pulled out my phone.

Beau grabbed it out of my hands. “You’re not calling the vet. He’s fine, look at him,” Beau said, waving my vibrator around, then using it to point at the dog.

“I’m calling. He got an electrical shock,” I said, then yanked my phone back. I searched for Dr. Barnes’ number in my contacts and clicking on it immediately. When I looked up at him, I narrowed my eyes. “And would you put my vibrator down already?”

“Hello?” a deep, smexy, voice answered while I was yelling at Beau. Dammit. “Gigi? Is that you?”

“Hi, Dr. Barnes, yes, it’s me. I’m sorry to bother you again,” I said, feeling like the biggest idiot who ever lived.

“It’s no bother, sweetheart. I was just thinking about you,” he answered, with a hint of devilry in his voice.

“You were?” I said breathlessly, suddenly forgetting why I’d called him.

“Mm hmm, you need to bring those two down for their shots. I don’t see an appointment for them in my book.”

“Oh, right. I was going to call you this week.”

“Anyway, is something the matter with one of them?” he asked, shaking me out of my dreamy, doctor stupor.

“The boy puppy chewed on a cord and I’m scared he hurt himself.”

“Ahh, I see. Are there any burns around his mouth or face that you can see?”

I looked again, thankfully still not seeing anything. “Nothing yet.”
