Lexi

After Trey smacked his hands around at the water, I locked my door and went for a nice, hot shower.

I needed to clear my mind and relax before my nap.

Otherwise, I’d just lay there and think about—things.

Just as I’d finished drying my hair, my phone lit up with notifications from different social media sites.

“Huh,” I said to myself and turned off the hair dryer. When I touched the screen, I saw why.

I felt my face flush as I read the headline.

“Lexi Hunter files for divorce from Trey Turner—cites ‘adultery.’

Oh, crap.

I scrolled through a few other platforms and saw much of the same.

Good freaking grief.

I could feel my stress level amping up—and I knew—I just knew that Trey, and maybe some of my teammates would be back over here in minutes if I didn’t get out.

Now.

I had to make a snap decision on what was best for me.

And for the job I was brought here to do.

All of this gossipy crap had definitely messed with my mojo. I needed to narrow my focus back to why I was here.

And that wasn’t to get drunk, marry a pro hockey god, discover his pain pill addiction, file for divorce, and get trashed by my teammates and all of social media.

The more I scrolled, the more crappy I felt.

Most of these comments were not kind in the least.

They all blamed me.

I was a gold digger.

A slut.

A puck bunny.

A troublemaker.

A spoiled brat.

I powered my phone down.

In record time, I packed a small bag and grabbed what I thought I’d need.

Before I stepped out my front door, I turned my phone on.

Just long enough to send a message to my team and the coaching staff.
