Trey

“She’s a great fuckin’ player.” Beau sat beside me.

I thought all the guys had left by now.

I couldn’t stand going home.

Not just yet.

Of course, the dog would be happy to see me. At least there was that.

Hayley loved her doggie daycare, too. And she loved staying with her mommy.

It was weird.

I never thought I’d be jealous of a puppy. But I shit you not, I was jealous whenever Hayley ran over to Lexi’s door and started scratching.

Then, inevitably, Lexi would open her door and lavish the exited pup with hugs and kisses.

Which was exactly what I wanted from Lexi.

“My wife? Yeah, she’s fantastic. I get hard just watching her shoot. That wrist of hers is deadly, man.”

I didn’t do more than glance at Beau. Hopefully, he’d only stopped by for a quick hello.

It wasn’t his fault that my life was one foul, steaming piece of shit right now. My brain knew that. But, I was jealous as fuck from my heart down to the depths of my soul.

Jesus.

I really needed to stop reading those romance novels.

I mean, I’d tried to put them away.

More than once.

They called to me like a warm, summer’s day.

Christ.

That’s it. I was burning those books as soon as I got home.

The point I was so descriptively trying to get across was—me watching the rest of the team play hockey—while I sat my ass down and watched—was breaking my goddamn balls.

So, yeah.

I was pretty fucking jealous of them all.

Yeah, it was juvenile.

Yeah, it was petty.

But, yeah, it was the truth.

Being around them made me want to punch a hole in a wall.

Consequently, I made every excuse I could not to.
