“The hit,” he interrupts.

My eyes bore into his as I stand taller. “Leslie,” I growl. He shakes his head but lets me continue. “It took a while. She was hidden well. When I found her, she was weak from starvation, dehydration, and lack of sleep. This tiny woman was literally killing herself to try and protect herself.”

“So, you thought with your dick,” he says, raising an eyebrow.

I slam my fists on the desk and lean in closer. “I thought with my fucking head. She had a goddamn story to tell, and I listened. I went with my mother fucking instincts and they were spot on as always. She was framed by Vincent Dalo. He killed Luigi Greco. He tried to kill her, but she ran. He set her up knowing she’d take the fall. If anyone deserves the hit, it’s that piece of shit Vincent. A coward of a man who framed the woman he was dating.”

“You have proof of this?” he asks.

“I have Leslie,” I reply.

He groans as he scrubs his face. “You took the word of a woman who knew she was wanted. How the fuck can you guarantee me it’s the truth?”

I shrug my shoulders and step back. “There are no guarantees in life, Rogue. I know in my heart that she is telling the truth. I knew it before I even found her, she just proved me right. I won’t let anything happen to her. I will fucking protect her from everyone. She’s mine and if you’ll agree, I’d like your help in making sure she no longer looks over her shoulder.”

He sits down in his chair and runs his hand through his hair. “What?”

“You tell Vincent Dalo that the hit was done, and she’s gone. You get to keep the money and she gets to move on with her life,” I say, refusing to sit.

He laughs a humorless laugh as he scrubs his face. “Fuck, Cash. This is some big balls shit. You fucking love her?”

“I do,” I answer. I don’t even need a second to think about it. I love her. I’ve never loved a woman before, not like this. She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. She brings light into the darkness of my life. She brings sound to the silence. She brings calm to the chaos. She said I brought her back to life, but she brought me to life.

“Fuck. Alright, let me think on this shit. I’ll give you a call in a few hours,” Rogue mumbles.

I nod as I fold my arms. “It’s a win-win situation, Rogue. I don’t know what the fuck there is to think about.”

“I’ve never lied about completing a job before, Cash. I’m unsure if I’m willing to lie now so that your dick can get wet. I need some fucking time to think. Now, get the hell out of my office before I fucking throw you out,” he yells.

I grab the back of my neck as I stare at him. “I love what I do. I’m a fucking master at it. But I’ll fucking walk away tomorrow if it means I need to choose.”

This time I turn and walk out before he can say another word. I pleaded my case and it’s rock solid. I have no intentions of backing down. If he can’t see it my way, I will find somewhere else to work.

I leave the headquarters and head home. I haven’t even been gone that long and I fucking miss her. I can’t stop grinning as I head into the elevator. I could get used to coming home to her every day.

When I get to my floor the elevator opens and my body tenses. The door is open. I rush toward it, pulling my gun out of the holster. My heart is pounding as I kick the door open the rest of the way and look around. There is food all over the floor of the kitchen and broken dishes. Fuck! They found her.

“Leslie,” I yell.

“Cash,” she screams.

I race toward the bedroom and find her tied up on the bed. She’s crying so hard; her body is shaking. I notice she is secured by zip ties, so I grab her face, my gun pressing against her cheek.

“Baby, I need to go get a knife to cut you free. I’ll be right back.”

“No!”

“You’re safe now,” I say, kissing her salty lips.

“No, she’s not.”

I jump off the bed and spin around. Vincent fucking Dalo. This mother fucker just signed his own death certificate.

My gun is pointed at him, while his is pointed at Leslie. She’s screaming and he has a fucking smirk on his face. I don’t need my gun at this point. I could kill him with my bare hands. My muscles tighten when he takes a step closer.

“Tell me, Vinny. How do you explain to your father that you let an innocent woman take the fall because you’re too much of a pussy to take the heat?” I growl.

His dark eyes snap to me and I raise my eyebrows. I need his focus on me, not her. I want that gun pointed at me.
