“I’ve got nothing. I say we lounge around then all go out to the bar tonight.” I smile because it is the perfect plan for a Saturday night. Becca comes in the door with Kenz, Campbell, and Dick not far behind.
“I made breakfast; it’s still hot if you guys want any.”
“She had sausage in bed first.” I almost choke on my coffee.
“You are such a pig, Young. I don’t know how Maddie deals with it.” Becca says as she sits down on the couch with us.
“She loves it. She likes to have my pig in her blanket.” Everyone is sitting around laughing at him at this point. He even laughs at himself. We start talking about what time we are going to leave tonight when there is a knock at the door. We all stop talking and look at each other with puzzled faces.
“Who the fuck could that be? Do we have anymore friends I don’t know about?” Dick says as he gets up to answer it. I look at Becca and Kenz, lifting my shoulders because I have no idea who the hell it could be. Dick opens the door and it is like someone punched me in the stomach, knocking the wind out of me.
“Well, hello there. I’m Lydia.” I feel like I may be sick, I’m so nervous and pissed.
“What the fuck are you doing here, Mom?”
Mom? What the fuck? As soon as Dick opened the door, I felt her entire body tense up. Whatever it is that happened between these two is worse than I even thought. Her mom is a stunning woman. Her hair, makeup, and clothes are perfect, exactly how Maddie used to be. She walks into the apartment taking it all in, looking at everything as she makes her way over to Maddie. I’ll be damned if I’m going to let go of her. I can actually feel her heart pounding in her chest.
“Maddie, how are you?” She is looking back and forth between her and me. S
he looks pissed. That just has me tighten my hold on my girl. I promised her no one would hurt her that includes her mother.
“What the fuck are you doing here? How did you find me?” Find her? She didn’t even know where her own daughter was? I have so many questions, but right now is not the time. She keeps looking at me, Campbell and Dick, which is making me feel like she is checking us out. I should have put a fucking shirt on.
“Don’t forget who you are speaking to, you will not talk that way to me. I need to speak with you about something, but considering you seem to be hiding out in this…apartment ignoring me, I had no choice but to find you. Now, would you like me to speak in front of your…friends or would you like to speak in private?” Who the fuck does this lady think she is? She is talking about this apartment and us like we are scum. Well fuck that.
“Seeing that you only introduced yourself to Dick, I’m Tyler Young, Maddie’s boyfriend.” Maddie’s entire body goes still when her mother whips her head toward her with wide eyes.
“Boyfriend?” she says with disgust. I squeeze Maddie to let her know I’m right here. Everyone else is just quietly watching the scene unfold.
“Why are you here?” Maddie whispers not even looking at her.
“We need to talk. Where?” Maddie starts to get up and I stand with her.
“Where ever you want.” I say grabbing Maddie’s hand. Her mother looks at our hands then at me.
“This does not concern you.” Oh, this bitch doesn’t know who she’s dealing with.
“Actually, anything to do with Maddie concerns me.” I’m trying to control my temper but she is pushing me.
“Maddie, you come with me now!” Maddie starts to pull away from me and I pull her back. I turn her to look only at me.
“Babe, I’m right here don’t push me away.” She is searching my eyes, I don’t know what she is looking for, but I hope to hell that she finds it.
“I’m not pushing you away; I don’t want her to be spewing her poison around.” She is sweating and looks like she is going to be sick. How the fuck can I just let her go?
“Just let me come, I’ll just be there for support. There is nothing she can say that would poison my love for you.” She searches my eyes again and pulls away.
“I can’t. I’ll be right out.” She turns to her now smiling mother. “You have five minutes, starting now.” She walks to her room with her mother hot on her heels and slams the door.
I turn and look at everyone. “What the fuck is going on here?”
“She never talks about her mom; I have no idea what is going on.” Red says looking as upset as I feel.
“Maybe this is something they need to for closure, Young. Calm down.” Dick tries to talk me down, but it’s impossible. I make my way to her bedroom door and listen. I can’t clearly hear everything, but I can hear enough.
“Maddie, I need your help. I’ve got ‘friends’ that are asking for you, you specifically. Things are slow and I need you.”
“No. I don’t do that anymore. I have a boyfriend and we love each other.” She doesn’t do what anymore? I’m getting a sick feeling thinking of all the possibilities.
