Sniggering, I lean down and place a kiss on Mia’s forehead, not willing to tell her what’s going on in my messed up head.
Despite listening to Alec and CJ, none of us can figure out if she heard what they’ve been saying. Like, really listened and not just to the parts she wanted to know about.
Mia looks at me with wide eyes, and I remember she’s yet to answer my question. “Answer me, sweets,” I command in a low tone.
Rather than answering me with words, Mia nods, and I decide that’s probably the best I’m going to get from her.
“So you already know a lot of planning and research goes into having a pet. The one thing that makes CJ great at this isn’t his access to their files. It’s his ability to switch that part of himself on and off and his patience. He doesn’t go in guns blazing, and he doesn’t let emotions rule him. Once he has someone down there, they can’t plead with him or change his mind. CJ becomes completely apathetic when his plan is set in motion. Your need for vengeance was born from grief and anger, and you haven’t let go of that.”
Mia pushes me away, and I let her so she can jump down from the counter. As she walks out of the kitchen, she looks over her shoulder and says, “Come take a bath with me.”
Yeah, of course, that’s the natural response to what I said.
