Page 10 of Restless Omega

He blows out a breath, leaning his head back to stare at the ceiling. “They belonged to the packs' omega. He died a few years back."

"Oh, that's terrible."

That explains why no omega was there with them the night before when we were welcomed by the lead pack.

He nods. “It is. It was a difficult time for the entire town. He was beloved around here. And brilliant."

"Should I have left the books alone?" I freeze in horror, hoping I haven’t committed some grave offense.

He shakes his head. “No. In fact, his alphas would probably be more than happy to let you look through them instead of collecting dust in here."

"I'll bother them about it another day."

"You're leaving?"

I nod. “I’m going to check on my friend, and make sure no alpha has her cornered."

He raises a brow. “What if she wants to be cornered?"

"Then my work is done, and I can head back to the omega housing.”

He eyes me with an expression I can’t read. “I take it you're not interested in being cornered by an alpha yourself?"

My face screws up in repugnance. “Hell no."

A surprised laugh bursts out of him. "Do you need any help slipping out of here?"

"I can handle myself."

He grins slow. “Oh, I'm sure you can."

I scowl at him, not liking the flutter in my stomach responding to him. “Don't flirt. You have an omega.”

"He doesn't stop me from flirting. We're not a closed pack yet."

"Not for him, for me. I'm not looking for an alpha or a pack. And you're too tempting, so no flirting."

Besides, what would he want with me when he already has an omega? I’m all for flings to help pass the time, but not with anyone who’s taken. I don’t do drama.

"Yes, ma'am. Friends, then?"

"Sure. Especially if you can hook me up with books." I don’t know if I’m making the right choice when he smells this good, but I can’t help it.

He intrigues me and I want to know more.

"We've got a pretty kickass library here in town I think you might enjoy. I go there pretty often when I need a quiet spot to get my casework done.”

"It's already the first thing I'm checking out tomorrow."

"I look forward to hearing what you think." He has a secret smile on his face, like he knows something I don’t.

But no way am I staying here to try to tease it out of him. I’ve tempted fate enough tonight already. Two scents that drew me in so strongly? Not today, Satan.

I shoot the beta a smile and duck from the room, heading back towards the ballroom. He is really way too tempting. What is up with this town? If I don’t keep my guard up, I’m going to be sucked into a pack and end up tamed and settled.

I’ve barely been here twenty-four hours and am already finding tempting scents.

This truly doesn't bode well for my time here.
