Back out in the ballroom, I keep my breaths shallow as I search through the crowd of dancing and flirting for my friends. Thankfully, the scent that attracted me so much before doesn't rear its head and tempt me again.
I find Rose already near the door, looking frustrated and sad. "What's wrong? Who do I need to murder?"
She gives a listless shrug. “No one. Ready to go?"
I nod grimly. “More than."
The scent reappears and I shove my friend through the door. "Let's get the hell out of here."
The scent follows, growing, making my eyes bulge with panic and my pulse picks up speed.
The beta was bad enough. I cannot handle an alpha appealing to me like this.
Chapter Six
Aurora

THE SCENT HAUNTS ME all night, making my sleep restless.
By dawn, I give up and crawl out of my nest, my body sore and achy, my hair a snarled mess.
Something is going to have to give. I can't stay here with this scent constantly tempting me. It'll either drive me out of my mind, or I’ll give in to situations I’ve been fighting against my whole life and find myself trapped here, an alpha's omega.
A pack omega.
My worst nightmare.
Today, I’m going to ignore all of it. The tasty alpha, the dashing beta. My only focus today will be the library and my work. Those are what matters.
I throw on an oversized sweater and leggings, covering my messy hair in a hat instead of bothering with it. Comfort is the most important thing if I’m going to spend the day tucked away in the library, pouring over books.
After my conversation with the beta, I have great expectations for what I’ll find hidden inside the library.
The town is still quiet as I make my way along Main Street, map in hand. Most everyone must still be asleep from the late night celebrating our arrival, but according to the welcome packet, the library should already be open. It's one of the few places in town actually open, everything else opens much later in the morning other than a coffee shop and a bakery.
