"Rose, can you call the pack and let them know what's happened and tell them to get over here?"

"Yeah."

I point a shaking hand in the direction of my table. "This isn't all. There are rose petals scattered over there. But I don't think it was him."

"Fuck." Oliver wraps me up tighter.

Rose and Trix snuggle in close too, guilt and anger in their eyes.

The pack arrives before the police, all of them growling and stomping as they hurry towards our huddled group. The alpha is still knocked out, the circle of librarians and townsfolk all staring down at him, watching for the slightest movement.

"Did I kill him?" I ask.

Callan squats down next to him, checking him over as Grey and Enzo yank me away from the others, scenting me and checking me for injuries."Unfortunately, no, darling.”

Oliver joins Callan and between the two of them, they get the alpha clear of the books and shelf. A librarian tosses Oliver a roll of duct tape, and he makes quick work binding the alpha's hands and even slaps a piece over his nasty mouth.

Trix nudges me and jerks her chin towards the mess. “Nice job, by the way. I know it had to hurt your soul to use books like that."

I sniff and cross my arms. “There are tons of quotes about books being the best weapons in the world. Turns out, it's true in more ways than one."

The police find us cackling and leaning against each other as our relief turns a bit to delirium. It's been a long fucking week. And sadly, this is only one threat down. The mayor shows up with her alphas while the police are still questioning me.

And so does my goddam mother.

She stomps over, fury radiating from her, causing people to cringe away from the dominance she's throwing around like an asshole. "What the hell did you do?"

I glare back at her. “I defended myself from an alpha who doesn't believe omegas have the right to say no. I defended myself from a threat sent to me by you."

One of the cops interrupts. “Alpha, we're going to need to take you in for questioning."

My mother rears back, bristling. “Are you arresting me?"

"Not yet, but I have a feeling we will before the day is out."

I gape after them as the police haul my mother and her little prick away and I can finally breathe.

Until Trix asks, "Where the hell is Rose?"
