Chapter Two

Aurora

#

THE OMEGA HOUSING THEY escort us to are better than most, like they’ve actually asked an omega’s opinion.

The colors are warm, everything light and breezy, but easily closed in with heavy curtains and piles of blankets so we can make our own nests if we need it.

The building is made out of a small apartment complex with plenty of greenery outside the windows and soundproofing in the walls.

I share a reluctantly impressed glance with Rose. We’ve stayed in some real dumps together, and this is a pleasant surprise.

The coming weeks don’t look quite as bleak anymore.

Rose and I are assigned suites next to each other, and then all the omegas are left alone to get settled, all of us gripping a welcome packet of information.

I ignore the packet for the time being, and focus on getting my work station set up.

It’s the first thing I do at every new place on this ridiculous program. I need a comfortable place to read and research.

Using the pillows and blankets provided, I make myself basically a blanket fort.

Once it’s up to my standards, I drag my bag inside of it, and unload my stacks of books and papers and folders, getting them situated just right.

Thankfully, I’ve learned to tote candles around with me as well, so I scatter those around the cushioned floor as well. It’s the perfect office for my time here.

I’m certainly not going to use it for anything else. Trix recently helped me through my heat, so I’ve got plenty of time before my next one.

With my office just the way I want it, I curl up with my current read, letting the hours slip away one by one.

Until the real world invades when Rose knocks on my door.

Rose’s expression is just as grumpy as mine when I open the door to let her in. “According to the calendar in the packet, it’s time for us to join some of the leaders of the town for a welcome dinner.”

I groan. “Can’t they just have dinner delivered to us? Do they not understand omegas and our need to nest?”

Rose raises a brow. “Aren’t you the one studying and researching to disprove all the stereotypes and clichés about omegas and our nature?”

I scowl and flick her off. “Sure, but not nesting. There’s no way that’s anything other than our nature. I don’t feel settled until my scent is stamped on a place and everything is just so.”

“I know, but I’m worried we won’t get dinner if we don’t go.”

I frown down at my outfit, but shrug. My sweater and comfortable leggings will have to do. I refuse to put extra effort into my appearance after being summoned by the town’s alpha leaders.

“What else did the damn packet say?” I growl the question.

Rose shakes her head. “You didn’t read it?”

“I had better reading material I was more interested in.” I shrug.

“Fair enough. It was actually rather nice. There’s a schedule of events they have going on while we’re here. A list of restaurants and their delivery options. They provide meals for us, but if we have a craving, we’re welcome to choose something else. A map of the town. Information about the ball tomorrow night. A few flyers and brochures. There’s a winery we’re definitely checking out and you’ll be happy to know they even included a coupon to a coffee shop.”

“Yes to the winery and the coffee.”
