Page 4 of Restless Omega

Rose laughs. “I thought those two things would catch your attention.”

“Once we get all this welcome bullshit out of the way, we can make a day of it.’

“Come on. I’m sure the alpha leaders demanded this because they want first shot at all of us.” Rose tugs me out the door.

I roll my eyes. It isn’t the first time something like this has happened.

This wouldn’t be the last.

Outside of the building housing all of the omegas, the pretty town is lit up with twinkly lights, the cobblestone streets, lined with shrubs and flowers.

It was like something out of a novel or a movie.

I try not to be charmed, but it’s difficult. The entire place is so pretty.

The two of us join the throng of other omegas heading towards the town center, where we’ve apparently been told to meet.

An adorable cafe sits right in the town square, and a stern female alpha stands outside with two male alphas at her back, welcoming the new omegas.

This doesn’t bode well.

My jaw hardens as we wait our turn in the line of omegas ringing around the entrance.

But when we reach the alphas, their eyes are kind and they keep their distance as we stand in front of them.

The female steps forward. “I’m Mayor Harrison. Or Erica, if you prefer. We’re so glad you made it here. Don’t worry, we won’t keep you long, we know you want to be back in your new rooms, making it your own. The welcome ball tomorrow will be more overwhelming and we wanted to introduce our pack to you so you’d know who to come to if there are any problems. These are my mates Andy and Will. Our pack is in charge of this town, I’m the mayor. Welcome and come inside to eat.”

Rose and I exchange surprised glances as the group of us moves towards the entrance.

Alphas aren’t typically in packs alone, especially in romantic relationships. Do they not have an omega? Or did they decide to leave theirs hidden at home?

This place is odd.

I’m just not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing.

But my interest is peaked, so I perk up as we enter the cafe, the smells appealing to my hungry belly.

The cafe has tables scattered across the place with one long one at the back where the mayor and her pack sit.

Rose and I choose a small table in the corner, where we can keep our eyes on the alphas and the exit at the same time. None of the guards who traveled with us from the last location are here. Though there are more than enough omegas to handle three alphas and a few betas who are filing from the kitchen carrying platters of food and placing them in the centers of the tables.

Once everyone has food in front of them, the mayor stands, a glass of wine in her hand. “Cheers and welcome. Enjoy the food, and if you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to ask. We want you all to feel comfortable and safe while you’re here with us.”

This town is actually looking pretty hopeful. This is the first alpha leader of a town I’ve ever met who treats omegas with such care and respect. Which seems surprising if she doesn’t have an omega of her own.

For a town called Neverwhere and the forbidding sound of it, this one may end up the best one yet.

It all depends on how the Welcome Ball goes tomorrow.
