I give him one last kick to the ribs before Trix drags me off.

“Fuck that guy. Are you okay?”

I gasp for breath, letting Trix tug me along. “Yeah. Are you?”

Trix curses as we head away from the crowd heading down a side street. “I’m pissed.”

I snort. “Yeah. Same.”

Trix squeezes my hand. “You bring me to the nicest places.”

“Next time, we’ll go shopping for books and eat delicious food,” I promise.

“Deal.” She stops. “Fuck. We’re cut off.”

Blue lights flash at the end of the street, barricading us in. No way can we take our chances with the cops. We backtrack quickly before they spot us, searching for either a place to hide and ride it out, or an alternate escape route.

In one direction, we have cops. In another, we have pissed off alpha. And in yet another, we have a riot. No real good options.

A yelp echoes down one of the alleys as we race by, catching my attention. My eyes widen in horror as I recognize the beta surrounded by six alphas. What the fuck?

It’s Enzo.

I change direction immediately, racing straight for the group, my grip tight around the pepper spray I brought with me. It's almost empty at this point, but I'm hoping it has enough to take on a couple more assholes. “Enzo, close your eyes. Now."

He obeys immediately, going boneless between the alphas, who are too stupid to understand what's happening as I press the button, deploying the spray right into their dumb eyes. They snarl and squeal, rubbing desperately at their eyes and then Trix is there, handling the rest of the fight, kicking the shit out of the stumbling alphas while I grab Enzo and pull him away to safety.

He blinks at me in utter shock, letting me drag him to the side of the building, where we wait for Trix to finish pounding out her frustrations on these alphaholes. "You're here?"

"Yes. Where the hell is your omega? Is he here? Is he okay?" I search around like I’m going to find his crumpled body somewhere in this tiny alley.

Enzo hugs me. ”He's fine. He's with our alpha. We got separated in the chaos, and I needed to buy them time to get away. Then I got a bit in over my head. I’m glad you showed up when you did. I’m not sure I could take on six alphas alone like your friend here”

Trix is almost done. She’s playing with them at this point. They’re all blinded from the pepper spray and spend more time bumping into each other than anything else.

“Yeah, she’s pretty awesome. Do you have a place to meet up planned?" I keep my eye on Trix, making sure she doesn’t end up needing help.

Enzo nods. ”Yeah. Back at the hotel."

"We're parked not too far from there, so we'll make sure you get there safely. Text or call them and make sure they're safe and let them know you are too. If you want to keep it quiet that I'm here with you for now, that'd be great."

The last thing I need is for Grey to come out, determined to save me when I'm just fine. And not his responsibility.

Enzo nods and pulls out his phone while Trix finally finishes taking out her stress and anger on the group of alpha holes.

"Thank you. Both of you. Fuck, I didn't think it would get this ugly." Enzo grimaces.

I sigh. “It's only going to get worse. But this is too important to give up on."

Enzo nods. ”It is."

I adore betas. It's really too bad he has a pack and an omega already.

"You got anything left in that bottle?" Trix gestures at my pepper spray.

I shake it by my ear. “I’ve got enough for maybe one more spray."

"Pick your moment carefully then." Trix bends and picks up a piece of wood from the pile of trash, rusty nails sticking out of it and hands it to Enzo. "Here. Let's go. Keep Aurora between us and wack anyone who gets too close."
