"I didn't go to the rally.”

The confusion clears from her face. “Oh."

My jaw tightens. “A mistake, it would seem."

"How'd you know to find me here?" She sighs and shakes her head. "Nevermind. You bullied Rose into telling you."

I scoff. “There was no bullying. I just explained what happened and she was quite surprised to hear how ugly things got, since apparently you didn't bother telling her anything."

Aurora winces. “Thanks for that."

The female beta behind Aurora steps forward, running her hand down Aurora’s arm. “You good here, babe?"

Aurora turns to her friend with a soft smile. “Yeah. Thank you for taking me. I'm sorry it wasn't quite as much fun as we hoped."

The beta snorts and winks. “I got to beat the shit out of some alphas, so I had a great time. I'll come along for that anytime."

Who is she? Who is she to Aurora? There’s a familiarity and intimacy between them that sets my teeth on edge.

I breathe deeply, trying to get myself under control, but It’s not working very well.

"Do you want to stay the night?" Aurora asks.

The beta shakes her head. “No, I better get back. I've got work tomorrow."

"Let me know you made it safely."

"Of course."

The beta smirks at me before pressing a hard kiss to Aurora's lips, nipping the bottom one with a wicked look. "Be good, omega."

Aurora chuckles. “Never."

"That's my girl."

Aurora rolls her eyes and shakes her head as the beta slings her long leg over the bike and heads off back to wherever the hell she came from.

"Who the hell was that?" I stomp forward.

“Trix.” Aurora adjusts her backpack on her shoulder.

I growl. “That tells me nothing."

The omega’s eyes narrow on me, anger sparking in the hazel depths. “And I'm not sure why you feel you're owed an explanation. She saved your fucking beta's life, for one thing. I've had more than enough alpha bullshit the last twenty-four hours. The last thing I need is more. I'm not your fucking omega. Yours will be home tomorrow, and he is just fine as far as I know."

"Why didn't you tell us what you were planning? You would've been safer if you'd gone with them."

She scoffs as she turns her back on me to make her way back to town. “I stayed perfectly safe with Trix watching out for me. I don't need an alpha to protect me. I protected myself just fucking fine."

I fall into step beside her. “I know. And you helped save Enzo. I know your friend didn't do it alone."

She doesn’t say anything in response and I finally shut my mouth as we head to the omega housing. Nothing is coming out of my mouth the way I want it to, everything sounds so dickish. Better to just shut up and calm down. She’s safe, she’s back and my omega and pack are safe too and will be back tomorrow afternoon.

There is no way in hell I’m staying behind next time. I clearly cannot handle it.

Aurora pauses once we get inside the building and she unlocks her door. “What the hell do you want from me, Enzo? It's been a long day."

I stomp after her into her room, bristling with frustration and fear. "I don't know. But the thought of you out there without my packmates to help you has driven me completely crazy. Especially when my omega and the rest of my pack was there too and I was stuck here, helpless."
