"Yeah, things are great. I'm on blast, my business is spread all across the internet, I have few options left unless I take on alpha or pack bonds, and to top it all off, my mother is headed out here. Which will end with me bonded to probably the alpha hole back there. Or someone like him. That way, I'll be punished and silenced and controlled all at the same time, and they can prove to themselves and the world that they're still at the top of the food chain." I wince and suck in a sharp breath. "Fuck, I'm sorry. I don't know why I just spilled that all over you."

Callan is strangely easy to talk to. He doesn't interrupt, he nods along, clearly paying attention. And I just met him less than ten minutes ago.

Maybe that's why it's easier to talk to him. I don't know him, and may never see him again, so why not get all this off my chest.

"You're more than welcome to spill on me anytime." Callan huffs, looking uncomfortable. "I didn't mean that to sound as dirty as it did."

A startled burst of laughter escapes me as I step inside the omega housing building, holding the door open for him to step through.

He has a slight flush to his cheeks as we head up the stairs to my floor. “Anyway. My point was, I'm happy to listen to you vent."

"Why? You just met me. I don't even know you."

“Just because I don't know you doesn't mean I shouldn't take a moment to be a decent human being for five minutes." He stops, a growl echoing through the halls. "What the fuck is that?"

I frown in confusion before I remember the bullshit painted on my door. "Yeah. It was there when I left this morning."

"Did you tell anyone?" Callan asks, his chest still rumbling.

I shake my head. “No."

His jaw clenches and his eyes flash. “I’ll have it taken care of."

"Okay..."

Callan visibly calms himself, wrangling back control. “Our town is better than this, please believe that."

I search through my bag for my key. “Oh, I know. If this came out while I was back home, it would've been much uglier."

"Come to my pack's house for dinner. You don't need to be here while this is getting cleaned up. Honestly, I'm a little worried about leaving you here alone anyway. Maybe we can have you move rooms." Callan looks up and down the hall like there’s some threat hiding in the shadows.

"They'll just search out any new one I move too. Besides, I have no plans to run and hide from bullshit like this. The other omegas would help me if things get too ugly." I finally find my key in the bottom of my bag.

”All right. But still please, come to dinner. I know my pack would love to have you. And when you get back, all this will be clean." He glares at the message on my door.

And of course this wonderful smelling alpha has a pack already.

"Can I come too?"

I spin to glare at my friend. “Rose!"

She blinks at me. “What? I'm getting a little tired of takeout and the kitchens in these rooms aren't really the most functional for cooking."

Callum smiles graciously at Rose. “You are of course welcome as well."

She beams. ”Awesome. Thank you."

I've been quite clearly managed, but I can't even be mad about it. I don't really feel safe here anymore, even less so with the nasty word across the door.

"Let me drop off my stuff and change clothes real quick." I unlock my door with a sigh.

"Of course. There's no rush."

I shoot Rose a look and she's quick to understand, following the alpha and I inside my rooms. He may have helped me and smell at least as good as Grey, Oliver, and Enzo and seem like a perfect gentleman, but I'm not taking any chances. If it wasn't for Rose wanting to go, I wouldn't have agreed to go back to his house for dinner. Maybe the two of them will strike up something. She deserves someone kind like him. I ignore the pang that hits my chest at the idea. I'm not looking for an alpha, but she is.

This could be a good opportunity for her.

My phone buzzes, and a mixture of hope and dread battle it out in my stomach as I check the message. My shoulders slump. It's just a checkin from Trix, wanting to make sure I'm okay. I reassure her, and make a date to call her later tonight. That way if things go bad at this alpha's house, she can send out a rescue party if I don't answer.
