Once I'm changed into a nicer outfit, I sling my computer bag back over my shoulder, unwilling to leave it behind after my room has already been made a target. It has all my notes inside too, so the only things left for a pissed off alpha to ruin are some clothes. Those can be replaced easily enough.

"I'm ready. Thanks for waiting."

"No problem. You look lovely." He clears his throat. "You both do."

Rose snorts, shooting him a mischievous smirk. "Thank you. That's so sweet."

He flushes and rubs the back of his neck.

Poor alpha. Rose is going to have him twisted in knots by the time the night is over.

I'm rather looking forward to it. I could use the distraction.

Rose and Callan chat as we walk through town, leaving me to my thoughts that are beginning to spiral again. Why hasn't anyone gotten back to me? It makes no sense. We were in contact just the day before, why are they ignoring me now when I need them? I've given up a hell of a lot for the cause, to help them, and until now I'd taken no credit.

That cabin in the woods is starting to look more and more likely.

And that's if I'm lucky.

The townsfolk are perfectly polite as we walk the few blocks to the residential street past the shops. I shoot the library a longing glance as we pass it. I wish I could just live inside there. Oliver could sneak me food when I need it.

The house Callan leads us up to is charming, clearly quite old, but maintained well. It's large, but thankfully not a mansion. The porch is the main draw. It wraps completely around the house, and I want nothing more than to curl up on that porch swing with a stack of books.

"This is beautiful,” I say.

"We're pretty proud of it. It's taken a lot of work to restore, but wait until you see inside." He opens the door and waves us inside.

I step inside, and my mouth drops at the sight that greets me. "What are you doing here?"

Oliver gapes back at me. “What are you doing here? I thought we said tomorrow?"

"That'll be my fault,” Callan nudges me further inside. “I invited her after we dealt with an ugly encounter and I saw the state of her door."

"What the fuck is wrong with her door?" Grey bursts in, angry lines stiffening his shoulders.

I pinch the bridge of my nose as understanding washes over me. "He's the other goddam alpha in your pack."

The one who was at the rally with Enzo and Oliver.
