Rory is doing the same thing.
She's so desperate to not be an omega, to resist the roles forced on her, she can't see what she has available right in front of her. It took her arrival for me to come to that realization. Why can't I give her the same patience?
Even if she leaves, we can stay in touch, keep building a relationship with her. And then go get her if she's ever ready for more.
Grey smirks at me. “Back with us?"
I sigh. “Yeah. For now."
"I'm sure one of us will freak out about it soon enough,” Oliver says. “But right now, we need to make sure our home remains a comfortable place for her. Which means we act like her friends and keep our distance if that's what she needs. Our feelings aren't her responsibility."
His words hit me right in the chest and I nod. He's right. And that's something I'm constantly guilty of.
Oliver snuggles into me. “We get it. We're desperate for her to be a part of our pack too, but it needs to be her choice. I don't want to be her only option either because she's forced into it. She'll just resent us later, and we won't trust her feelings. It'll turn toxic."
Grey chuckles. “I love that our hesitant beta is the one to go all in with Aurora. Should we be offended?"
"Oh, fuck off. You know I adore you bastards." I shrug. "I don't know. Ever since meeting her, it's like... she was who I was waiting for. She was the missing piece."
Callan nods. “She is. And hopefully she'll come to believe that too."
I groan, rubbing my face. “Fuck, why is this so hard?"
Oliver snorts. "This fucker. Do you have any idea how many times I've whined to the others about you?"
Grey shakes his head. “He's the reason the rest of us are so patient. We've had to wait for him to get his head on straight for years. Now it's his turn to deal with it."
"You're all assholes." I flip them off.
The door opens, cutting off any reply, and Rory steps through.
All my plans to play it cool disappear as I take in the upset expression on her face. "Who do I need to kill?"
