“Right.” She was stunned at the thought of him sitting and sniffing the scent of them together. Mind you, heat sheets would be the ones to use if you wanted to distract yourself.

A soft knock at the outer door and the housekeeper stated, “Come in.”

Riithan came in wearing more formal clothing than she had seen him in before. The thrumming started, and his tail twitched the moment he saw her. She squeaked when he picked her up and kissed her.

His tail was pressing against her back and rubbing up and down. She leaned away from his kiss. “Are you scent marking me?”

He rubbed his cheek against hers. “Yes. A few of the generals are here for dinner. They have not had a chance to interview anyone from the BDC directly. A few are patrons, but actually asking questions is not usually plausible.” He chuckled. “I am guessing they don’t want to waste their time when their partners are on the clock.”

She paused. “Each one is limited to three questions.”

He nodded. “Okay, we are heading down to the overlook for appetizers. And after that, a family dinner.”

“Family?”

“The generals are my uncles and cousins.”

He was carrying her to the hall, and once his room door was closed, he offered her his arm.

She huffed. “I feel a trap closing around me.”

“Of course not, princess. The trap closed a week ago.”

She looked at him in outrage, and he laughed. She saw that his stinger was out and on alert. They walked through a number of large rooms, all glossy and elegant, with high ceilings and dark wood everywhere.

The back doors let in a cooling breeze, and when they walked outside, she turned around and tried to run.

Riithan moved to block her and turned her around with his hands loosely on her shoulders. “Gentlemen, my mate, Ylara.”

The ten alphas and Riithan’s parents were looking at her with amused expressions.

She put her hand over her heart, and she bowed. “Hello.”

One of the men looked her over. “Did you really work for the BDC?”

She nodded. “I did. I was initially an escort, then I worked for admin in recruitment.”

Riithan held up his hand. “She will answer three questions from each of you. So Timmorn, that was one.”

Ylara stuck close to Riithan. There were a lot of eyes looking at her like she was a snack. Fortunately, their curiosity outweighed their lust.

She sipped at a soda as they milled around her and asked questions. One of them asked, “So, are you carrying yet?”

Ylara blinked. “I think so. I have seen the child, so I believe she will be here next spring.”

That froze them all in their tracks. Himera came over and asked, “Are you sure?”

“Well, she has my face, thick black curls, and dark green eyes. And she is pushy and yells a lot.”

Riithan grinned. “That is all you there, sweet.”

“Stock up on glittery robots.”

Himera gasped. “You actually are Reeva’s daughter?”

“I remember her. She always had this necklace that she let me play with.”

Himera smiled. “I gave her that necklace. She came with me to the stronghold. When she and your father married, I gave her that necklace when they wed. She was with me for years, and your father offered to stay on so we weren’t separated.” She smiled. “There were fresh flowers in my quarters every day, and I knew they were actually for Reeva.”
