Chapter Twelve

Idon’tevenrealizethe fighting is officially over until Cal is jumping over the side of the box with me in his arms. My body jerks against his while my stomach lurches, and I watch over his shoulder as the clear containers overhead disappear into the ceiling.

Waving at Nako, who has a relieved look on her face, I turn my attention to Alexa, pulling up slightly and intending to sign goodbye, but she’s waiting for me to meet her eyes.

“Tell your new Orclan I said thank you.”

Thank you?

My brain slowly processes that she wants me to thank Cal for killing that guy? Ugh. I don’t know if I can.

I mean, what if that guy was just determined to get Alexa? Maybe he wasn’t such a bad Orclan after all. Aggressive, yeah? But bad—

“I didn’t intend to kill him.”

Cal’s rumble sends a thrill of excitement through my body. Just like it always seems to do, I’m immediately wet. Totally not the right time.

Leaning back slightly, I stare at his rigid jaw line. “Was he a friend of yours?”

“No.” Cal looks down, and the darkness of the tunnel surrounds us as he practically runs down the ramp. “He was a peteron.”

I shake my head. “That didn’t translate. A what?”

“A peteron. A traitor. He was not well liked.”

Oh. That doesn’t make killing him any better, but at this point, I just need to be thankful that Cal is alright. Alive. Unhurt.

“Well...” my voice is small, but of course, it’s still translated as loud as possible through Cal’s collar. “... Alexa is thankful.”

“It was an accident.” I watch his aura carefully as mottled tones of gray ripple through the bright deep purple.

Stroking my hand down his head, I settle myself more firmly against his shoulder, talking into his neck. “Accidents happen...”

“Not for me.” I can tell he’s upset. There’s a deepening of the purple energy and red brightens the edges around his head. “I’ve fought against him many times before. But this time, he was easy to beat, and that move shouldn’t have killed him…”

“What happened?” This really seems to bother him. I thought I’d be the one that needed comforting after being subjected to the senseless violence, but Cal’s energy is tense, vibrating around us.

His arms tighten, and he turns, pulling me through the door to his room before I even realized we’re here. His body flips through the opening just as it’s wide enough, turning to stare at the door as it closes. “I think we’ve mated. My strength is increasing.”

Cal flexes his muscles as he turns and rushes toward the bed. I’m not sure what he’s referring to, but now that we’re back in his room, all I can think about is sex. The spicy cedar scent coats the back of my throat, and I moan as he lowers me down his body, flipping me onto my knees.

The sound of tearing comes a second before a rush of air coats my spine. His large, warm body dwarfs mine as he traps me beneath him. “I need you, Edith.”

The long shirt falls down my arms as I scramble forward, arching my back as I moan. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but as his thick cock vibrates against the inside of my thigh, all rational thoughts disappear.

I wanted to ask about mating, and his new strength, and what it means to be mated. Emma showed us the marks on her thighs when we met, but there’s so much I don’t understand. But it will have to be later.

“Spread more.” Cal’s hands slip under my hips, lifting me slightly.

I brace my upper weight, reveling in his scent, now recognizable on the blankets under me. Even sweaty and maybe bloody, he smells delicious behind me, too.

“Are you ready?” His lips brush my ear, tickling me.

Shivering, I turn to look up at his incredible eyes. The urge to kiss him grows, but he growls, “I’m losing control, and I don’t want to hurt you.”

His hard erection slides against my thigh as he spreads his legs wider behind me. He reaches between us, and I close my eyes, concentrating on the fabulous sensation of his cock vibrating against me. Somehow it’s zoned in on my clit already, brushing along my entrance. I’m already soaked and ready for him, primed with desire.

Cal growls deep, and his chest against my back tingles as he presses against my entrance. When I feel the pressure ramp up and I straighten my arms to keep from getting pushed over, he murmurs, “Relax for me.”
