Every word of his mouth made sense, but it didn’t change the guilt that grew in her chest. It didn’t change the fact that she was the one responsible. It was her hands that pushed Sloane. Her mind that was susceptible to his compulsion.

“Flora. Listen to me.” She raised her eyes to meet Draven’s. “We will get through this, and if Emery is anything like you’ve said, she will forgive you.”

“I just…Sloane was her sister, Draven. Emery’s my family. She’s all I had at the castle.” Flora choked on a sob.

Draven cupped her face and wiped the tears as they fell. “You will still have her. And you have me now too, and our pack. We are going to fix this.”

“I have to tell her,” Flora whispered. This wasn’t a dirty secret she could keep locked away. It would eat at her now-immortal soul. She shouldn’t care that the woman she’d killed had bullied her in the castle just like everyone else; it offered her no comfort at all to know that Sloane was a brutal, cold person. This wasn’t just about Sloane; it was about Emery—her only family, aside from Draven.

“I know.” Draven gave her a halfhearted smile. “We’re already booked on a flight to Scotland tomorrow.”

Flora backed away from him and sank into the couch, her brows furrowed. “Scotland?”

Draven nodded. “I didn’t want to tell you until closer to the flight since I know how much you love flying, but the compound in New Orleans was attacked, and Callum moved Emery for her safety. We’re going to join them tomorrow to gather information about the war between the witches and vampires.”

Her mouth fell open, words failing her momentarily as her nerves rattled with the thought of facing her best friend. “I’m going to see Emery.”

“Yes, and I will be with you every step of the way,” he reassured her.

“I love you,” Flora stated. She didn’t know what she’d done to deserve him.

“I love you, too.”

She wiped the snot from her running nose. Apparently even hybrids were susceptible to ugly crying. “I’m sorry I ruined our first night in our home.”

Draven quirked a brow and tipped his lips in a half smile. “Who said anything about ruining our night? This was just a setback, but I still fully intend on welcoming you home properly.”

He shifted his weight and stalked forward, gently laying her down on the plush cushion of the couch.

“Don’t we have a flight to pack for?” she asked, seeing the way his eyes shifted from concerned to heated as he leaned forward and pressed a kiss to her throat.

“Donna already has us packed, and you can sleep on the flight.”

She arched her back giving him better access to the crook of her neck. “Why would I sleep on the flight?”

“Because, my sweet mate, I plan on showing you every room of this house, and painting each of the walls with the sounds of you screaming my name.”

“Do you now?”

Draven pulled away and his gaze locked with hers. It was filled with nothing but love and devotion. The two things she’d always longed for but wasn’t sure she’d ever find. He nipped her bottom lip. “I do. And you know why?”

“Why is that?”

“Because you are mine. Now and forever.”

His.

She belonged to the Alpha of hybrids. She was his Luna. His mate. But more than that, Flora had found where she belonged and she was damn sure going to make sure nothing took it away from her.

“Then make me scream.”
